Big 12 Tourney Predictions

It's really wide open this year, and I think the Thursday matinee games will be a big factor. The biggest wild card is really the Kansas roster. I'll roll the dice and assume they show up with a short bench, and that they get bounced on Thursday by K-State.

Another wild card is he status of WVU's PG Staten. They have played very well in his absence, but without their superstar, I see them bounced by Baylor.

They Cyclones will be coming off their longest break since Christmas. They'll get off to a big start versus Texas, and will win going away. Tsalmpouris, "whar" Endozie, and hometown favorite Custer will finish out the final 8 minutes of the game.

ISU and KSU will carry their momentum, much to the delight of the crown, on Friday night. On Saturday night, in front of a packed house, Iowa State will outlast a very determined Purple Kansas squad for the title. I gotta admit, I teetered on picking K-State for this title. The Cinderella scenario is enticing. But I think the Cyclones memory of their November loss to Maryland in this same venue will provide the edge.

Wednesday
Kansas State over TCU
Texas over Texas Tech

Thursday
Baylor over West Virginia
Kansas State over Kansas
Iowa State over Texas
Oklahoma State over Oklahoma

Friday
Kansas State over Baylor
Iowa State over Oklahoma State

Saturday
Iowa State over Kansas State

I won't be surprised to see us bounced by Texas.

I would hate to see it, but can't disagree with the sentiment at this point. If Texas keeps it close enough late and even if down with 4 mins left they'll employ the hack-a-clone and if they get hot from deep then look out. They have a lot to play for living life on the bubble.

KSU over TCU
Texas over Tech

KU over KSU
Baylor over WVU

ISU over TU
OSU over OU

KU over Baylor
ISU over OSU

KU over ISU

I think we either lose to Texas or win the whole thing. Texas is going to be desperate on Thursday, assuming they beat Tech. Gotta match their intensity and rebound with them.

I honestly felt that way before the tournament last year. I thought if the team showed up and played well enough to beat KSU, they were there to win the whole thing.

But then I doubted the team at halftime of the championship game which the team proved me wrong and came back to win.

Wednesday:
KSU over TCU
Texas over Tech

Thursday:
Baylor over WVU
KU over KSU
ISU over Texas
OU over OSU

Friday:
Baylor over KU
ISU over OU

Saturday:
ISU over Baylor, once again!

My only prediction is that Kansas will not make the final.

Totally agree, they are barely limping along right now. That team they put on the floor Saturday in Norman is barely top 25 caliber. Lucas/Mickelson/Mchylovic (however you spell that) - yikes.

I'd be shocked if they make the 2nd week of the big dance too unless Ellis and Seldon come back 100%

I want nothing to do with OU on Friday. If we beat texas (big IF) I think we win the whole thing if somehow Okie State can beat OU. I'd also much rather play this hurting KU team in the finals as opposed to Baylor.

I would be pleasantly surprised if K-State beats TCU. There's so much drama on this team, guys. Thus, I'd be astonished if they beat Ku. This is Ku's chance for redemption. They'll be breathing fire for another shot v. the Cats. OU doesn't have much depth. And although ISU is shallow as well, you're deeper than Boomer. Baylor is my dark horse, followed by the eers.

I would give mine away for free to any non-KU fans if ISU is not in the championship game... rather spend the day elsewhere in KC having fun on Sat.

We currently have nose-bleed seats right now, so I am hoping to pick up much better cheap ones from some of the other teams prior to the Fri/Sat games.

For RPI fans...

Just poking around some sites… here is who is expected to win the Big 12 tourney:
(per rpi-forecast.com)

Probability to win the Big 12 tourney title:
Oklahoma 22%
Kansas 21%
Baylor 19%
ISU 16%
Texas 9%
West Virginia 8%
Ok. State 3%
TCU 1%

This is a dream scenario for ESPN. They want no part of any other matchup, except maybe KU vs OU. Although I can see any number of scenarios happening. I just think Hoiball is too much for the Big XII in three days. Too many options to game plan against. Only downfall for ISU is if the shooting touch is like the Maryland game there in November. I just dont see that happening.

Wednesday
Kansas State over TCU - This is truly a pickem.
Texas over Texas Tech - Tempting to pick Tech here, they are playing for nothing and Texas is playing for their tourney lives. Could come out too hyped up...

Thursday
WVU over Baylor - I like how WVU has played without their star, Staten makes the difference in this one.
Kansas over Kansas State - KU is too much for the purple kitties...
Iowa State over Texas - Rebounding is the only thing that keeps it semi close, Clones win going away.
Oklahoma State over Oklahoma - OSU wins because they need a solid win to solidify their NCAA bid.

Friday
Kansas over WVU - Kansas is too much for WVU, especially with Big 12 refs on the case.
Iowa State over Oklahoma State - Even though it is hard to beat a team 3 times in a season, ISU gets it done at the FT line.

Saturday
Iowa State over Kansas - ISU wins, Perry Ellis breaks a hip walking to the scorers table, and ISU cruises.

If we beat texas (big IF) I think we win the whole thing if somehow Okie State can beat OU.

This sure would be an eye opener to me. It'd be the biggest shock of the tourney (unless Tech or TCU manage to win a game.) I find them all highly unlikely scenarios. OU is such a better team, has more talent than the Pokes, is better coached, and swept OSU during the regular season.

OSU, Tech, and TCU all lose their 1st game if I had to bet.
