Big 12 Referees

Just because play isn't halted for further review doesn't mean the play isn't being reviewed.

Explain why then when a player was injured & everyone is standing around, the play was not being reviewed.
Then, when the injured player begins to leave the field of play after several minutes, the ******* ref turns on his mike to say "the last play is under further review"
Why does he announce it? Why wouldn't they be reviewing it during the time the injured player was being tended to? And when the hell ever does a face mask penalty after the play was over not get added on after the resulting play?
OK, that last 1 is unrelated, but that crap was damn awful.

Hey, no one else has mentioned it yet, but didn't you notice how the Fox Crew we apologists for the referees and never ever called them out on any questionable call but instead covered their tracks with loads of Steer Manure?

Since Bevo didn't travel to Ames, Fox made sure his previous weeks meals did? I guess you could call it ear crap.

I remember all those manwhores posting here about how great the Fox crew was - I hear Bevo calling!

Actually, on the Darks PI they called them out. On the Money overruled catch, they called them out. Not sure what else you wanted form the FX crew.

In order to fix officiating they need to hire full time officials like the NFL. These garbage refs need to undergo proper training and job reviews by the conference. If they screw up they need to get fired or at least go on probation. With so much money riding on the sport nowadays, why not spend some on better officials? Pollard needs to push for this as a part of Big 12 reform.

Here is their review process.

A pulse?

That was the worst crew...no, second worst crew yet. Calling the team the Cyclons was a classic. Apparently a little too much Battlestar Galactica the night before.

UConn game was worse.

Now This is what calling the refs out sounds like when done properly. Notice the indignation in the voice and rise in volume and pitch. Not the monotone "Buhler? Buhler?" crap from Faux Sports.

I am guessing they reviewed it during the injury timeout and instead of calling the TD, they showed a little respect for the injured player, allowed him to get off the field and then went through the action of review and calling it a TD.

They probably didn't want the crowd cheering when KO was on the field

There was a facemask on Texas on a play where we gained about 12 yards. The refs said decline the penalty and we got the 12 or so yards, shouldn't the penalty have been added to the yards gained?

I wondered about that too. Aren't personal fouls added to the play?
All right, I had to know. It doesn't seem to make sense to me but it appears that it was called correctly.

I'm not going to paste all of the language here, but here is the link if you want to look it up. See pages FR-97 through FR-98.

Apparently if the foul (by the team without possession of the ball) occurred on a running play it would have been enforced from the previous spot or the end of the run which ever was farther down field - that is, tacked on to the end of a positive play as we expected. Since this was a pass play the only option for enforcement was from the previous spot. I think the play was over 15 yards so they took the pass play and declined the penalty.

It is interesting since once the receiver catches the ball and starts running you would think he would be treated the same as any other ball carrier. It doesn't seem to give a tackler any disincentive to grabbing a handfull of facemask once the reciever has made the catch and is more than 15 yards down field. I thought that rule was all about protecting the players.:skeptical:

Any football officials want to shed some light on this?

All of the zebra apologists posting "get over it" etc. should be banned for life as toxic trolls after the Baylor game - seriously.

Final Score: Baylor 49 - 26. Vegas spread -13.5

  1. Baylor fumble inside the ten called incomplete pass called correctly = -7 Baylor points. Final 42 - 26.
  2. Onside Kick called offsides on #7. Momentum killed. Baylor scores on ensuing drive. Point differential 7 to 14 pt swing.
  3. Calling O interference on ISU player when it was clearly D interference. 1st down in red zone. Likely +7 ISU drive
Final on these three calls alone: baylor 35 - ISU 33 to 40.

Not hearing a public calling out at this point from Rhoads, Pollard, etc? Damn.

I do not expect ISU to win another game this year under these conditions. Long shot for even KU unless Vegas gives ISU the spread in that game.

Officiating sucks but they will not do that. Why hurt their bank account when there are official methods to make your voice heard? I don't expect to see any changes though.

I have noticed a trend to unfavorably spot, unfavorably rule on plays, call non-penalties and call very questionable penalties this season with Big 12 referees vs. ISU. Not to mention every single explosive or big play is reviewed and unfavorably ruled on as often as possible.

I don't think I've ever seen so many clear touchdowns, long runs and long catches negated in college football in my life.

It has gotten so bad that after watching the Texas replay, how can you not guess that Texas and ESPN are using that Longhorn money as christmas stocking stuffers for refs doing as they say?

Let me be clear: This has happened in every single ISU game, all refereed by Big 12 Referees, right? Shameful and shamefully obvious bias against ISU on a consistent ongoing basis.

That's the SCREW ISU rule, which takes precedence over all other rules in any game in any sport in which the Cyclones are participants. Who can forget the basket scored by KU in Lawrence when the ball was dead and we were shooting free throws?!!!!!!! Oour guy was shooting a two shot foul. He missed the first shot and KU took that DEAD BALL the length of the court and scored. And it was allowed. And KU won that game by one point! And remember CJ Bruton? He was an ISU BBall prospect entering the country from Australia, I believe. He was disqualified to play for ISU by the big XII for having played semi-pro ball. Chris Weinke, on the other hand, plays minor league ball in the states for several seasons, then goes to FSU to use up his eligibility. Not only is he allowed to play, he wins the freaking Heisman!

I was listening to the pregame on the radio and Eric said Tom Robinson was the replay official. I knew we would in for an interesting night from the replay booth. I don't think he has ever done ISU any favors.

You would think this thread was about tonight, but no, this was 2 years ago and the same inept replay official at ISU for the Texas game. Unbelievable!

It's obvious to me, and probably everyone else that the officials in collegiate sports don't spend nearly as much time and effort in improving their skills as the coaches and players. If the refs did, the frequency of bad, or missed calls would greatly reduce. There needs to be a defined metric in which to rate the officials. Furthermore, these officials cannot be part time employees of the various conferences anymore, but must be full time where they're required to take training classes throughout the off-season. Some sort of standardized testing would be useful as well. Having referee schools a la baseball umpire schools, and just as challenging, are a must. A prospective collegiate referee must graduate from one of these schools before being allowed to apply to any conference for an official's position. With all the TV money rolling in, not adequately training and evaluating collegiate officials is inexcusable.
