Big 12 POY

I think it is a really difficult call between Wiggins, Ejim and Kane. As the stats point out, Ejim outperforms Wiggins in most major statistics. But KU finished #1, and we will likely finish #4, even with Ejim and Kane. Should that matter? Maybe not, but it will.

Would love to see Ejim get it, but as I said, I don't think a choice of Wiggins will be a snub. Having Kane in the mix will probably hurt Ejim, as I don't see Embiid getting any play for POY, but Kane could pull some votes from Melvin.

It has to be one of our guys.

Without Ejim or Kane ISU probably isn't dancing. Without Wiggins, KU probably still wins the Big 12.

In a perfect world POY would be decided by actual production/accomplishments during the 2013-14 season - unless your Marcus Smart who should be disqualified for obvious reasons. In terms of production Wiggins isn't even close. Here is the production and corresponding conference rankings. There is a case to be made for all three - Kane, Ejim, & Staten - Some people might weigh points/rebounds higher others look at the whole package - some its purely emotional/political.

Kane
PPG 17.9 #4
RPG 6.2 #15

1. Ejim leads the league in scoring over ALL games not just conference games. I am not sure why you would put Staten at #1.

2. I'd give Ejim the Big 12 player of the year, but I am incredibly biased. However, the stats show that he should be in that discussion. I think that when you have a 4 year guy that is that good, it is OK to give him the edge.

3. Kane is awfully good too and deserves consideration.

4. I wonder if coaches think about things like splitting the vote? For example, if I am a Big 12 coach and I think that Ejim and Kane deserve consideration, but I don't think Wiggins should get it, I'd try and figure out who everyone else is voting for. Likewise, if I am Hoiberg and I can't vote for my guys, it would be hard to vote for Wiggins. Luckily Hoiberg is not as petty as I am.

When is the vote? If Ejim goes on a tear in the last season game and during the Big 12 tourney, he could rally some votes for himself, particularly if Wiggins doesn't do so well. And let's throw in a few game-winning shots by Ejim for good measure.

I would be disappointed if Hoiberg doesn't campaign for Ejim. Seems like it has already started with Dickie V last night and Fran F today. Dickie V said he had talked to Hoiberg yesterday.

Vote early . . . and often.

Pretty sure it comes out before the tournament. Some media ballots are probably already turned in.

Wiggins is great, but Ill be irritated if he wins it.
I agree tired of the hype - Wiggins will be fortunate to win Freshmen of the Year - check out KSU Freshmen Marcus Foster production in conference play.

The official Big 12 one (voted on by coaches, I think) comes out on Sunday. That's the one where Ejim got jobbed last year and got 3rd team (a crime). I think the media one comes out on Monday or Tuesday.

The moer **** i see linked from Kenpom the less I'm convinced he has any idea what he's talking about, or watches games.

what he does has nothing to do with talking or watching, it's based on statistics and only statistics.

Here's his brief description of the award:
Briefly, this award is based on a player’s value to his team in combination with his team’s strength. This has nothing to do with a player’s NBA potential nor should be taken as such. Nor is it attempting to predict the outcome of any other human-based POY award. It’s simply one system’s measure of a player’s value.

People should prepare themselves now for Wiggins to win. It is going to happen and if you accept it now there will be less meltdown later.
Also if a clone does win, it will be that much better.

The way the coaches should vote (in my opinion) based on how the top players played against their team.

Baylor- Kane

Iowa St.- Wiggins, but maybe Staten to avoid the Wiggins vote

Kansas- Hard telling ??

KState- Ejim, played well against them and hopefully Weber wants to say FU KU

Oklahoma-Ejim, good #s against them, and Lon Kruger gets it.

Oklahoma St- Kane if he has a good game tomorrow, otherwise Ejim

Texas- Wiggins, guess

TCU- Ejim, duh

Texas Tech- ??

WVU- Up in the air. Neither Kane or Ejim played well against them. might depend on their game tomorrow. Guessing Wiggins.

The whole Kane & Ejim stealing each others votes is gunna really hurt them.
