Big-12 / Pac-12 possible merger

We all do at times, as stated. It's not used as ubiquitously as Hawks by a long shot. Clones is overused by those outside the program a lot of times. Many will agree. You are no doubt a Cyclone, as your posting history clearly attests to. Go2Guy not so much...

I’ve never had an issue with anyone referring to them as the “Clones” - because it’s so obvious where it came from. The only issue I’ve had is with “Clowns”, but then again that’s just tavern hoks that think they’re being funny and clever but instead are being, well, clowns.

I sometimes say "Go Clones" to someone with ISU gear on out of state. But I suppose you're right, I do hear it a lot from national media who are trying to convey an inside knowledge of the fanbase/programs.

Nothing more annoying than hearing a bunch of drunk Iowa fans belligerently yelling "HOKS!". Not "Go Hawks!" Just a guttural, disgusting "HOKS!". It's only slightly above two animals communicating with each other.

Right. I use it too in similar situations. It's usually the color guy that has done his surface level research and wants to sound supportive of our product or something along those lines.

I come from a family of ISU alums and have rarely heard any of us use “Clones.” Maybe your situational ISU fandom has something to do with it?

Either way it’s not a big deal. And not as annoying as the Hawksuckers calling us “State.”
On the flip side, I come from a family of Hawkeye alums and fans. They use Clones exclusively when they are trying to have a civil conversation. Clowns and Moo U for the less civil instances. Never Cyclones though. My boss is the same way.

Umm, I refer to us as "the Clones" all the time. Most ISU fans I know do as well.
Not me. I never use it. I'm not sure exactly why. It does seem to be used a decent amount by non-ISU fans, though. For example, a business colleague out of state asking, "So - how are the Clones going to do this year?".

Another that is maybe more of a pet peeve of mine is when commentators/hosts use the phrase "Cyclones fans". Just stop. You don't say "Hawkeyes fans" either. ... although "Bulls fans" works better than "Bull fans"... Whatever.. just let me have my little rant here...

You have no idea what the he77 you're talkin' about. My freshman year had the privilidge of attending the first game played in what we call "the Jack" (vs AirForce) and have been a loyal son forever true ever since......btw, is your head gonna explode because I called the stadium, "The Jack"

My bad man. I was wrong. You're not a troll. I was just thrown off by how many of your non-political posts mention Iowa and how they almost seem to prioritize the head to head outcomes in the CyHawk rivalry above all else (not saying that's necessarily true, that's just how your posts come off.)

It's more understandable now that I have a sense for your age (and I don't mean that disrespectfully) and that you are an Iowa City native to boot. I apologize, and I take back what I said.

Ditto. Certainly more often than I call them the Cyclones. I say "Go State" a lot too. One syllable words ftw.

Do we seriously have people triggered by these? That's not really a thing right?
Not triggered. Just an observation. And for the record I actually agree that the one syllable thing actually does sound good, and if it was used more in an official capacity or used as often interchangeably as Hawks is for Hawkeyes I'd be ok with it. Certainly not the hill I want to die on.

Thank you; all is cool with us.
But I do admit trolling & bashing Twinkie for his 'trolling' excuses when we lose to Iowa - the *schtick* is getting tired.

I'm still not sure I understand the value the Big 12 leftovers would bring to the Pac 12, other than potential central time zone games. I don't see us improving their TV revenue unless Fox Sports decides to go all in with a Western Half of the US Conference as one of the 4 super conferences.
The PAC has been absolutely destroyed financially. They don't have the luxury to keep doing what they are doing. I don't know if a Big 12 merger/alliance is the ticket, but they are in bad shape financially, and they need to try something. The reason they haven't done anything in recent years is because the conference was a trainwreck and wasn't attractive to anybody to poach. Now there's finally a bigger trainwreck that might open up the door for them to do something that can make them viable in the future.

As it stands Okie St. and ISU would be right with, if not ahead of UW and UCLA as having the most TV eyeballs behind USC and Oregon.

I just don't think that people who live in CA, OR and WA are as big of football fans or sports fans for that matter as we are in the midwest and the east. And I'm saying this in a general sense. I think there is just too much natural beauty out there that they'd rather be at the beach surfing and playing volleyball or up in the mountains camping, hiking and skiiing. They certainly have their fans but I think in general they really don't get that excited and supportive for sports.
