Big 12 in 2014-15

TCU will be significantly better. Probably 7th or 8th next year. Anderson and Shepard return. They will get Abron back from injury and have two impact transfers in Trey Ziegler and Chris Washburn that will be eligible.

Well they can't possibly get worse, so there's that...

I don't see why we can't compete for the title next year.

Anderson, Fields, Shepherd, Abron, Ziegler, and Washburn is similar to what we have coming back.

Because the conference will be even better next year and we lose out two best players? I am optimistic we can be good though. If we get lucky with another Kane, it would help.
Last year we lost how many? Big 12 is significantly better this year and we have improved even though we lost the majority of our team.

The chances of us getting another Kane is slim to none. I'm not saying you specifically are implying this, but I really wish people would stop thinking that situation is a common occurence that we can pull off anytime we don't get the high school recruit we wanted. 99% of 5th senior transfers with immediate eligibility at best will be guys that can give some solid minutes off the bench, not guys that will step in to lead your offense at a first team all conference candidate caliber.

I really hope there is an act of god that allows McKay to get that waiver.

Yeah. I'm kind of second guessing my statement. Forgot about Cobbins being back and Nash should be a stud next season. Would be big for them to get Turner.

Nash is probably gone. He's been NBA first/second pick for last three seasons. He will leave along with Marcus.

Okie State will fire Ford probably at the end of this season. Just can't see that guy staying around.

Texas is going to be really good since they will keep everyone. KU is KU. Even if they lose Embiid and Wiggins, they have Alexander, Selden, and Tharpe.

If Nader and Mckay live up to the hype, I think we'll be just as good next year. Morris, Thomas and Naz have all had some breakout games this year, and will likely make a big jump up in production next year. It's likely our heavy rotation is going to be the same the next 2 years. I doubt the B12 will be tougher than it is this year, but it'll be hard to know until we see who leaves for the NBA.

Fred has done a Coach of the Year level job, an NCAA berth and top-25 team after losing so much is outstanding.
But are we improved in regards to competing for the Big 12 title? We will likely end up with the same record and we have not been a threat to win the Big 12 since the second week of conference play. Last year's team was closer to being a Big 12 title team imo. The comment was I don't see why we can't compete for the title next year, not whether we could compete for a NCAA berth next season.
Also, we lost the majority of our team, but added a Kane level guard. Like I alluded to earlier, to compete for a Big 12 title, we need to add another impact guard imo.

You keep on saying this, but it is not true. As we have seen in two out of Fred's four years, post-grad guys that transfer are most often starters. The reason why it is unlikely is because they are hard to land, given how every program wants an immediate starter.

Trey Ziegler transferred to TCU!?!?!?!

wow. Didn't know that.

Help an old man remember who the other was.

If our name were Kansas, I'd guarantee that the NCAA would declare McKay eligible for the entire year.

But since our name is Iowa State, I expect the NCAA to not only declare him ineligible for the first semester, he's also ineligible for the entire year. Furthermore, Fred Hoiberg is deemed too dreamy and is hurting the feelings of the other coaches, and therefore the NCAA condemns Fred to Azkaban and forces us to hire Doug Gottlieb instead.

I agree with you. 5th year senior doesn't want to transfer to be a bench player. They are looking for a place that they can taste the success and get maximum exposure.

I was responding to it being said that we lose certain people. It isn't like we lost more last year. The actual question is debatable I guess. I think we are at least going to stay the same, but I think we improve and really compete.

Part of the reason that we supposedly aren't competing this year is that most of our loses are early in conference. We are tied for third right now and it would be crazy to say we can't get second. I don't see how the second place team isn't competing for the conference title.
