***Big 10 Thread***

How does one define a top program? History/tradition, recruiting success and recruiting base, recent success? I would argue that despite MSU's recent success that they still aren't a top 15 program.

I would say in no particular order I would put these teams above MSU:
Alabama
LSU
OSU
Michigan
Auburn
USC
Texas
Oklahoma
Florida
Florida State
Clemson
Notre Dame
Georgia
Penn State
Miami

I go by right now really when I consider top programs. I try not to set too many parameters.
I would say Michigan State is a better program right now than the Florida, Miami, tied with Notre Dame. I think USC frauded people with an NFL QB, and at best will be 9-3/8-4 for a while. I'd take out Texas and Michigan, put in Okie State, and could see Washington or Stanford make a case.

Now, if you want to talk all time programs, no MSU is not one. Probably not a top 25 all time either.

Didn't yo

Hmm....wonder why you cut that off at 2010

We both know the answer to that. Pick the rosiest scenarios you want, 3 out of the last 10, 5 out of the last 15, 6 out of the last 20. On the continuum of college football relevance for any time frame that has any impact on what happens moving forward, Iowa is closer to ISU than it is Alabama or tOSU.

I think KF has been a really good coach, but the last few years are what matter. It's possible that Iowa has another really good year in the next couple. But I think it's fair to say a coach that had as much success in the 2000s as KF did has now spent 7/8 seasons unranked is going the wrong way.

If the last few years are what matter, then Iowa is back to its 80s and 90s style domination of ISU. You may want to tell this to your friends who like to talk about KF's .500ish record vs. ISU since the bulk of those losses came pre-2008.

Could be. I don't really think what KF did against McCarney, Chizik, or even Rhoads matters when it comes to future direction of the program. If losing to Iowa every year is the difference between making a bowl, missing out on the CFP I might change my tune, but for now I'm happy that the direction of ISU football is looking so much better than almost the entirety of my fandom that I don't feel the need to be picky about who the Ws and Ls come to.

The things that get argued on here. Ferentz is a good coach. To say anything else is just stupid. Iowa has been pretty good under him. In the last few years they have not been quite as good, but have been helped by a laughable schedule that allowed the Hawks to get 10-11 wins and the crap kicked out of them in bowl games.

Fran, well, as far as I can see, he pretty well sucks, and is completely out of control way too often. Glad the Hawks have him lock up, because it is going to continue to be a rough ride.

Since 1889 they have 8 double digit win seasons.

The best thing about Nebraska going to the B1G is that they and the Hoks get to see how much their fan bases are alike on a regular basis.

Nebraska favored by 4 against Iowa tonight. Who y'all got?

You have to go with ToE covering easily here. They have to win outright.

They just whooped a conference opponent by 18, handling Wisky more easily than MSU did.

Fran has the contract extension monkey off his back. He can now settle down and focus on demonstrating why Barta was brilliant to lock him up.

Garza is one of the rising young stars in the B1G and Cook has really asserted himself the last 3 games. As teams have to figure out how to slow those 2 down, Jorbo is ready to off reminding all why he was on the all freshman team last year

Hoks 80
Huskers 70

Time to start thinking about B1G tourney seedings and the hoks are quietly setting themselves up for a run.

It is completely unrelated that I have a Ben saying Nebbie will cover.

Nebraska isn't too bad this year surprisingly. They have decent amount of athleticism. Iowa can't win on the road. I'm taking Nebraska to cover.
