Congrats on almost finishing ranked in the best ISU football season ever.

"It was an honor just to be almost nominated..."

It's not an honor to be the best team in the state when you guys have Kirk and Fran on lifetime contracts

Iowa's averaged a top-10 finish every 3-4 years since 2000. So yeah not every year, but pretty close. Not OSU/Bama type blueblood, but pretty close.
No, not really.
Iowa averaging 5 losses a year under Kirk, while if you combine Urb and Saban they average 5 losses a year (over their entire career!), while they play in a tougher division or conference.

So, no, it's not really "pretty close."

I know this will be hard for you to understand, but Iowa will never be Alabama/Florida/OSU. They are what they are, which is a decent to good football program. Nick Saban could not have Iowa in the top 10 on a yearly basis.

That's sad that Nebraska could do it with the right coach but Iowa can't. Sucks to be little bro

Could being the operative word. The college football world is a lot different than what it was during Nebraska's run. They had a lot of advantages over other schools that have been leveled over time. They'll be better under Frost, but I still think they're going to be somewhere between Wisconsin and Iowa.

I agree with you I'm just saying the right coach in football can get you to a top 10 program pretty much anywhere. Paul Chryst has had Wisconsin as a top 10 program but Saban couldn't get Iowa to a top 10 program? That must suck to be an Iowa fan

I know this will be really ******* hard for you to understand but @Gonzo brought up how "pretty close" Iowa is to Alabama and Ohio State, not me.

Wisconsin is a much higher population state that doesn't have another P5 program in the state. Huge advantage over Iowa.

Sucks that ISU is one of the worst programs in Div. 1 history. Feel bad for you guys.
We aren't spouting off how we are big time and then get pissy when facts are shown that we aren't.

Sucks Iowa has to stoop to the level of breaking the law for ideas on how to bribe fans to show up for games. Figure with all that free parking, Kinnick should be over crowded. Amirite @CyTwins ?

Wisconsin wasn't anything special until Alvarez showed up. Extremely mediocre for the 100 years before that.

Of course he does, he also produces much better results than Chryst.

So Paul Chryst can make Wisconsin into a top 10 program but Saban couldn't make Iowa into a top 10 program? I mean I know Iowa City sucks and all but that's crazy

Look at what guys like Frank Beamer, Bill Snyder did/have done. They have been at places just as long as Kirk, at "nothing special about the town" locations, and with less money, and accomplished a ton.
If Bill Snyder was at Iowa, especially with the schedule now with the new B1G, they'd easily be a top 25 team every year.

Not sure if Chryst has made Wisconsin a top 10 program to be honest. They are close though. Plus like I said Wisconsin has a lot of advantages over Iowa. It is apples to oranges. Come up with a better comparison.

Saban has a lot more advantages over Chryst than Wisconsin has over Iowa. Like others have said, look at Wiconsin pre Barry

As far as challenges each team faces (recruiting and being a small state with 2 P5 programs), I think K-State and Iowa would be a good comparison.

Seems as though K-State has Snyder on a bargain.

Exactly. Iowa accepting accepting mediocrity in all their programs. As long as Hawk fans still pay for seats and say we can't expect better Barta won't look to be better. Kudos.

I seem to remember Saban building a pretty good program in the Big 10 at MSU. I am fairly confident he would have stayed they would have been in the 10 consistently.
If Sparty can do it is possible EIU could too but not with their current situation.
