***Big 10 Thread***

This season? It's been gold since the locals thought they could do better than Doc about 20 years ago.

Let's face it there would be threads regardless, but you can thank Buddy, Mash, and a couple others for all of the junk they were talking since last season.

Thank us for what since you just admitted there would be these threads regardless?

And most ISU fans thought ISU would be on the bubble this year. Both teams have failed to live up to expectations, just that Iowa is beyond terrible and ISU is on the NIT bubble.

The difference is Iowa fans and local media expected Iowa to be in the tournament and ISU fans and media expected ISU not to be. Combine that with the fact that ISU is better this year which you guys would have never thought and next year looks promising for us it's kind of the perfect storm

Just find it odd that ISU is also having a disappointing season and all they want to do is rip on Iowa for their misfortune.

He can thank you guys for us laying it on a little thicker. There are more posters than usual participating in the Iowa sucks threads.

Disappointing is too strong based on what most reasonable ISU fan's expectations were. We knew we were in for some growing pains and that it was going to be a tough road to maintain our NCAA streak. Even if you want to use the word disappointing, there's a big difference between what ISU is doing, which is for the most part competing night in and night out in the toughest conference in the country and whatever the hell it is Iowa is doing.

I really don't think Fran will be fired this season but, the fans have started to turn on him, his players appear to not believe in their system and his antics on the sideline have been an black-eye on the program/Athletic Department for years. Fran's is on the "warm" seat, and he is aware that things need to turn around next year or it will be elevated to hot.

I am curious if Fran would look taking the same path Coach McD did at ISU. Doug wasn't going to be fired the year he left even with the fan base growing apathy and missing the tournament (though he had the issue with transfers leaving), yet he jumped at a lower MVC Creighton job rather than walk into a presumed last season and possibly not get a Head Coaching opportunity if he was let go after another bad year.

Could Fran look at a lower level which he had previous success at to avoid another bad year and not getting even that opportunity if fired?

Absolutely this. I think this is the most likely outcome of this year at this point. I think all the way along this has been about Fran coaching his sons. I would not put it past him to have 'thrown' PG recruiting just to make way for Connor. Now with Connor's likely red-shirt year he can push back 1 year getting that started.

There will be a solid mid-major like Creighton open(probably more than one), he just needs to find one willing to take a chance on the McCaffrey package.

I'd say a 50% chance this happens, 30% chance he gets another year and 20% chance he gets canned.

ISU fans and media expected ISU not to be.

"Maybe 6-4 heading into the final week before the Big 12 invades Hilton Coliseum on Dec. 29 and Jan. 1, but 8-2 and trending?

Heck, throw the still-incomprehensible Milwaukee debacle that happened more than a month ago into the win column, and Steve Prohm’s bunch is 9-1 and maybe bumping the bottom of the Top 25."

"Saturday’s 76-65 victory against a good Northern Iowa outfit that can win the Missouri Valley Conference was Iowa State’s best of the season. It was the kind of success that the NCAA Tournament selection committee might look at for separation when considering at-large selections."

It seems they're talking about going into the season. What did Randy think back then?

Randy Peterson is the worst journalist on planet Earth. It's not like both beat writers for us picked ISU to finish 4th in the conference like they did for Iowa lol

Part of it is that it's a rivalry. Also, ISU's "disappointing" season isn't as disappointing if you see the strides our team has made from the beginning of the season. We see development from our players & see player buy-in to their coach (for example, the night and day difference in defensive performance from TCU to TTU). Prohm did not mention "offensive deficiencies" after the TCU game - the focus was on defense.
When Fran employees a 11-12 man rotation, their should be NO excuse for why guys could NOT literally bust their tails for 2-3 minute increments to deny so many wide open 3pt looks, or to stop dribble penetration, etc. If they are tired after that 2-3 minute stretch, Fran could just substitute another group of 5 & continue that pattern. However, the guy still believes their main issue is offense. Prohm believes that good defense will give your offense better opportunities.
Finally, some of this ribbing that you guys continue to get has to do with a large number of Hok fans (that people on this site know/work with) who were boasting about how great Iowa was going to be this year in basketball. So, some of us take a little bit of delight in bringing up just how bad this season has been for the Hoks & their mighty expectations.

I'd prefer all disappointing seasons to include 9 game win streaks and wins over Top 10 teams if that's what we're calling this year. They've mostly met expectations so far. I'd be pretty happy if we can reach 6 conference wins but sure, 3-15 would be a disappointment.

Iowa has to be the biggest disappointment in the country this year relative to local writers' and fans' expectations.

To be fair, Iowa's players are developing a case of Franass.

Do you blame us? Literally everyone outside of the state had Iowa as an NIT team at best yet you guys and the local media tried to tell us how you were going to be when we could all see your weaknesses that you ignored

Exactly. I had multiple Iowa fans tell me that Iowa had at least one 1st Team Big Ten player on their roster between Cook and Bo, and the other would be 2nd Team. The fact that neither of them will even get votes is exactly the comeuppance all of their fans deserve.
