***Big 10 Thread***

Do you think the majority of Hawkeye fans like Barta?

I think a majority of the donors like him, which is all that really matters.

What a majority of the fans like doesnt matter and I have no idea the answer to your question. Its all about keeping the people happy that donate to the AD.

Seriously? I don't believe that

I love college basketball, and I have for 35 years. I've been through bad years where the team was experienced. Going into this year, with almost no returning experience, I knew that we were a completely unknown quantity. Best thing to do when that happens is just enjoy the experience of watching them grow. Three wins against ranked opponents helps a lot, particularly given how young we are. Seeing Lard and Wigginton develop into clear home run players does too. You can build around guys like that and our incoming class. Lots of good experience for these guys.

Often freshman as hyped as Lindel and Cameron (by many on here not nationally) don't live up to them. Those two are building blocks for next years team. NWB playing PG and Young before their injuries showed to be suitable starters.

Most had already predicted a tough year for this years team and we seen that realized. To that point, many had predicted before year with additions of Shayok and Jacobson the team would be back in the Tourney. I have seen or heard nothing that would lead me to not think the same thing at this point. Add in that LW and CL are further along than I thought they would be and a top recruiting class it has solidified that a top half finish and NCAA's 7 seed or better is realistic.

Do you know a lot of high level donors or how did you come up with that idea?

The crazy guy that sits court side at CHA has confirmed several times on the HR pay board that Barta has the full support of him and most of the other big time donors.

That makes sense. I would say the majority of "regular" fans don't like him at all besides you

Top 5 teams?

Top 10 teams?

Top 20 teams?

Top 25 teams?
So MSU has played exactly 1 ranked B10 team this year and 11 of 18 conference games against teams with similar or worse RPI to ISU (97). Pretty cupcake schedule. Purdue has had a slightly more rigorous B10 schedule with a whopping 3 ranked opponents and 10 RPI 100+ games.

KU and TTU will have played a minimum of 6 ranked B12 teams by the end of conference and only 4 games against RPI 100+ teams (ISU and Okie St). Night and day for schedule strength.

Even if you want to say that the top to mid of the B10 and B12 match up RPI wise the B12 goes 8 deep out of 10 while the B10 has 7 of 14 teams that are sub-100 RPI teams. Teams like OU, TCU, Baylor, KSU, Texas, and WVU would have had field day playing those bottom loaded B10 schedules in lieu of beating each other up each week.

Message boards, social media and Hawkeye fans I know. I am friends with a lot of Hawkeye fans and there's only one guy I know that will defend Barta and everyone else wants him fired. Sometimes I wonder if you are him...

I thought you were convinced I live in Forest City?

Wonder no more! Wrestling is dumb, it’s boring, it doesn’t make money, it’s a dying sport. If Carl Sanderson showed up to my doorstep I would tell him to drop the package on the front porch because I don’t even know what he looks like. For the vast majority of people that grow up in metropolitan areas wrasslin’ is the sport of the trailer park kids.
Sort of my view of non-revenue sports in general. People being into wrestling when Cael was coach had as much to do with the Chizik/ McDoormat suck as it did wrestling being good. If FB and BB are doing well, that's all that matters. Non revenue sports are like State of Iowa sponsored version of the I Cubs or Wild. Good family entertainment but once I leave the event it's pretty much out of mind. And please don't start on the baseball at ISU thing. I love baseball and went to plenty as a student in the last couple years of ISU baseball. Nobody watched. The environment was really sad.

I'm guessing a lot of people will care if ISU ever beats Iowa again in wrestling. Just like no ISU fan cared about the Iowa football game during the 15 year streak. Once ISU beat Iowa it became a big deal all of a sudden. Never even knew there was a trophy for the football game until 1998.
Your little brother mindset is a bad combination with your stupidity.

Wrestling is non-revenue around the country. Do you know why it’s non-revenue?

Yeah, completely agree. This was going to be a tough year, so I'd probably give it a 5-6 in terms of how I've felt watching the team. If we had these results last year or have them next year it won't be nearly as good. But based on what we knew going in, this has been a fine season.
