Does making a coach an “analyst” get around that?
No. Analysts can't work with the players. Analysts can only work with the other coaches.

Kene would be one of the best kick returners in the nation if he wasn’t made of glass.
Maybe because he had our kicker kick directly to YoungbloodWhy would we need to get rid of a coach?
Could....not....resistOn this note, anyone who includes a GIF of our fair-catch fiasco against Iowa needs a ban, and probably much, much worse.
That play alone is the poster child for needing a special-teams coach.
I suggested this several weeks ago. The fair catch on the kick off thing kind of sucksHIre Sean Snyder to be special teams coach. The guy has an office job down here today essentially rotting on the vine. He's a brilliant ST coordinator and would do wonders for ISU.
Just like Lazard. Almost always fair caught a punt. Way too conservative. If we hired someone, would we keep Tarique Milton as our fair catcher?
And he could have been really good at it but it was a little scary having him back there. Jarvis took some wicked hits returning.Just like Lazard. Almost always fair caught a punt. Way too conservative.

It's almost as if the staff surrendered to not having any type of return game this year. We had 22 kick returns and 8 punt returns. Our opponents had 54 and 14, respectively. We have a number of guys who are plenty capable of being effective returners; Kene, Lang, Jones, Milton, etc. I wonder what factored into this decision?
Depends on the situation. For example, it was obvious against KU there were big returns to be had given how they were kicking and our talent advantage, but we refused to do it. No surprise when we finally decided to return some kicks we had some big plays. In a situation like yesterday where the weather is horrible and offenses are going to struggle you have to try and find a play any way you can get it. A blanket no return strategy that ISU has used most of the season is dumbI actually don't mind the lesser number of kick returns. A lot of teams are too aggressive when it comes to deciding to go for the kick return, for little to no benefit when you already get the free yardage.

I imagine they looked at the numbers and felt fair catching it was statistically a better option over the whole year.Depends on the situation.
