Iowa’s 3rd down conversion % was insane. Defense struggled to get off the field. Not elite tonight. A sustained drive by the offense when it was 14-6 would have been huge. Not ready to praise our O line for a sub 100 yard game rushing. Tip your hat to Iowa and move on. Not sure about this team. We’ll see.

Holding a team to 18 points will win you LOTS of games.

Only scoring 17 points will lose you a lot of games.

I think that makes people feel a bit better, but just false. The entire yardage advantage came from two complete **** ups in the Iowa Secondary. Not to mention, putting the ball on the ground and being piss poor in the return game is sort of part of the game.
- get off the field on 3rd and long
- don't put the ball on the ground
- clean house on special teams. Poorly coached unit yet again this year.
Isn't CMC coaching special teams?

This offense has played twice now and the recurring theme is Mistakes and they have a terrible time scoring against a Compressed Defense.....And I agree with you re 17 pts in the big 12 will lose a whole lot of games...

It’s funny that as we get further and further removed from this game, Hawk fans will begin to say more and more how they dominated that game.
Sustained drives that ended in field goals....if Iowa doesn't have two blown coverages, does ISU have any sustained drives besides the field goal drive?

Absolutely true but you can't count on a DB completely ******* up and being 15 yards out of position too often. The offense held its own against a good D with some serious problems in the secondary, in part due to injury.

Sure, but he was out of position because he was supporting the run defense. If he weren't out of position, then he wouldn't have been there on run plays. So yes, you can clean up the out of position, but ISU would have been able to run the ball easier in exchange.

If ISU only hadnt blown a couple 3rd and long coverages...

I actually thought we moved the ball effectively. Quick passes for decent chunks to Kolar and the WR, with better than expected run blocking. Just found ways to kill drives, again, either in or just outside of the redzone.

To me, whole game felt like we were the better but significantly less disciplined team. Like Baylor had to feel when they lost to us last year after largely outplaying us.

I will give him the benefit of the doubt on the trick play, but on Milton's TD #12 or the Safety totally ****** up and didn't realize what type of coverage they are in. Simple route combo and both went with the outside receiver. That's pretty simple ****.

It was a trick play. If the trick play is done right, you can absolutely count on that. That’s the whole point of it.

I get that....I felt like Iowa moved the ball well between the 20s....and defensively was decent with the exception of blown coverage and leaving the space between the linebackers and safeties wide open. The first thing is teachable...the second is the scheme. I guess I felt like Iowa was in control minus the d backs being young and dumb. Maybe control isn't the right word. But I felt like, even after the second td, if they could fix the coverage issues, they would win.

2nd string center and special teams cost this game.

Offense and defense in general both looked decent.

My only criticism of defense was not getting Stanly on the run more because he cannot pass for squawk when moving.

And Iowa's only TD came from a short field caused by a special teams mistake. Other than that, they only were able to get FGs

Correct. Iowa had ONE touchdown. ONE. And that came on a drive that started at ISU's 25 yd line.

Similar to last year's game where Iowa basically only scored off of really short drives due to our horrible punts from deep in our own territory.

I thought this would be obvious too....if not with an entire year to prepare (assuming this was the focus since last January and the UNI gameplan was developed in 5 minutes on a bar napkin at Wallabys), AND two weeks to prepare AND everything any of us with the gift of sight could see when they did rush that extra backer in live in game time speed.......yet, we had that wonderful 3 man rush going at critical times with Stanley just making practice reads and pitches. 3rd and 22....good grief.
