Best Cyclone Sports Memory?

A couple that may have not been included, but stick out for me,

09 Insight bowl win.
The 1st Big 12 tourney title under Hoiberg. Believe that was against Baylor(?)

The transformation of a competent team via Rhoads & staff in 09. Felt like the sky "could" be the limit.
Winning conf basketball tourneys is just flat out fun. Night after night wins vs conf peers.

none of the above. For something I attended it would be Basketball beating OSU when the hoop was shaking from the noise and they missed two free throws at the end of the game. Second was this...https://cyclones.com/news/2008/3/19/1414094.aspx
I was there! Lower level behind the opposite basket student ticket!

Tough to put them in order.

FB: Being in person at the Insight.com bowl game. Awesome night to be a Cyclone. Last night Fiesta Bowl. 2011 beating Okie State. Any victory over Hoks... especially the 2002 night game at Kinnick.

Wrestling 1987. Hoks were going for the 10th straight team title. ISU steamrolled them, crowning 4 or 5 individual champs!

BB: 2000 season. Should have been Natty champs. Monte Daggering Texas at the buzzer in the big 12 tourney. Fizer over Mihm. Coming from behind 30 and beating OU thanks to Houge.

I'll be back with more.

Sheesh, does nobody remember the massive weight that the 15-game streak vs Iowa put on the program? Winning that game in 1998 was not only pure joy, but it helped McCarney, with that checked off the list, push the program forward.

If we're throwing basketball in there, I'd add

2000 Sweet 16 beatdown of UCLA
1998 2nd round win vs. Cincinnati
2001 Big 12 Championship celebration at Hilton
2014 Big 12 Tournament Champions
1996 Big 8 Tournament Champions

Beating Kansas in the last Big 8 basketball tournament.

In football this one is tops.
Did enjoy the Nebraska turnover fest.

No one game this year, but the year as a whole is the best!

Nebraska turnover fest in our last trip to Lincoln was pretty sweet.
Colorado tornado game will always live in my memory.
Paul Rhoads' proud moment.
Kyle Kempt debut in Norman.
Upsetting Okie State.

Niang and Morris winning the Big 12 Tourney.

Women's Gymnastics NCAA North Central Regional in 2006 was cool!

As great as this win was, I'm not sure it makes my top 5 because of the lack of drama. We controlled the game from the start and it really never felt like we were gonna lose. Maybe I'm just not used to that feeling as an ISU fan? Top 5 moments, off the top of my head:

1) 2012 OSU game - I was there, and in hindsight it didn't really propel the program forward the way we thought it might, but god damn that was fun.
2) 2000 MBB season - I was still young, but old enough to remember. Was at the UT game with the Fizer dunk over Chris Mihm. Goosebumps thinking about it.
3) 2014 Big 12 Tourney Championship/NCAA run - Ejim, Kane, Georges. Hardly a Baylor fan in sight. One of the best ISU bball teams ever. That game winning layup by Kane to beat UNC in the Round of 32 will never get old. Just forget about the whole Niang broken foot thing...
4) 2020 football win over Texas in Austin - This win was so important for so many reasons. I'm not sure I've ever felt so much stress, joy and relief in a short amount of time than during/after this game. The fan reactions afterwards said it all.
5) College Gamday in Ames - Forget the game result. To be there in person and see the Gameday set and festivities actually in Ames was so damn cool. Hopefully we will get them again next year under better circumstances.

Unfortunately Iowa 18-17 over ISU.

Had some tough losses last year. Close losses. The OU game  , shoulda had that one with the 'interference' on the 2 point try.

Football only for me in this thread.

1. Beating Iowa, 1998. McCarney could hang his hat onto something for local recruiting and legitimize what was happening.

2. Insight bowl win 2000. First EVEN bowl win, can't top that. Nothing happens today without that.

3.Texas Tech 2016. I remember thinking, huh, something good might be able to happen here.

4. 2017 Win at OU, simply HUGE. Another eye opener for me with the coaching staff.

5. Texas win/Fiesta Bowl win. Both were massive. Recruits see this stuff and helps build sustained success.

I did not put any Rhoads stuff in there. There were some wins but they were usually lucky and random.

Beating EIU in Iowa City in 2002 was great especially how we spoiled their undefeated season. I still get a lot of griefs from Tavern Hawks for that game

At Texas Tech in 2017 was when I had the feeling "oh, are we actually good?". That was the week after OU. That's been the difference between Campbell and Rhoads teams. We're winning because we have better talent and coaching.

Maybe a little biased since I was in the stands for this one:
Billups’ kick return in the Insight Bowl to seal our first bowl victory. That place was electric and everyone was going crazy. It was a great moment to witness.

I'm only going to do football and I'm going to lean heavily on games I attended.

1. TCU 2017-October 2017 was the best month to be an Iowa State football fan that I'd ever had. That whole month was just so fun. Every week, they would just confirm that they were an awfully good football team. The game was great. The weather was fantastic and it was my Dad's 68th birthday.
2. OU 2017-I wasn't there, but when you think about it--this was the game when this whole thing started. Every game since that game, I've never thought that we didn't have a chance to win. And hell, even when we've fallen behind, I've thought we could come back. At the beginning of the game, I texted my Dad and told him that we were going to lose by a million but it was pretty cool to see Lanning play both ways....I had to eat those words.
3. OSU 2011-Before that game, I didn't think we could beat top 10 teams (not named Iowa).
4. West Virginia 2018-We just kicked their ass and the moment when the stadium lit up with cell phone lights organically and Juicy Wiggle was playing was pure magic. There are just some moments that you want to remember and that was one of them.
5. 2021 Fiesta Bowl-I am a very nervous fan if I am not at the game and sometimes can't stomach watching the game, but yesterday I watched the entire thing, danced by myself after every touchdown and enjoyed the hell out of the whole thing. I am not sure that it has hit me yet, how cool it is to win a New Year's 6 game. I think it is partially because this team has been building up to this since that 2017 OU game and partially because we are just a ******* good football team.

Honorable mention goes to 2020 OU and 2017 Liberty Bowl.

Hard to beat this football season. Weird but wonderful. We beat OU and Texas and neither was a fluke. Won the Fiesta Bowl in low drama fashion. No more "nice little story" or "little brother". This is a real football program. The sheer satisfaction of watching this happen after decades of second class status exceeds any other memory.

Orr and Walden trying to tell everyone on Welch Ave to go home during the riots.

- Okie State game
- “The Run” game
- “Doc Rho from Mempho” game against
Iowa in BBall
- KSU game in Manhattan with ISU beating the vampire. Hobbs came into the stands after the game.

2017 TCU was huge. Beating Oklahoma was one thing, but then to follow it up a few weeks later with that performance against TCU really showed that ISU wasn’t a fluke and that Matt Campbell was going to do some pretty special things here.

The 2018 West Virginia win is underrated. They came in ranked in the top five and we just absolutely rolled them. Showed that the Cyclones weren’t a one hit wonder.

2020 Texas was gigantic for obvious reasons.

Thanks for the reminder, but to clarify I said "forget the score" not because I didn't remember what the score was. I said it more to tell others to forget about us losing the game and instead think about the whole experience of Gameday being in Ames and how awesome it was for us.

Oh yeah, my bad. I didn't catch the obvious innuendo. Sometimes I'm a little slow on the uptake, or don't read things right at first. Sorry. Not a game I should have brought back.

Apart from my misinterpretation, yes another Gameday would be great. And I think we will get another soon, maybe even next year. Maybe the flood gate is open to 'trickle' now?

All good...
Beating Iowa in 1998
Billups return in the Insight.com bowl
Beating OSU
Being in Dallas
But man, was that West Virginia night game with juicy Wiggle and the cell phone lights something special...that was when I knew that Iowa State was a changed program from players to coaches to fans. There was some magic in the air that night.
