Best Cover Song

Number of Cornell mentions so far... I put this as one of his best works, never released until he was gone:

Another one of my favorites from Chris Cornell was his cover of Billie Jean. Can’t say it’s better than the original because the original was a classic, but it was different and he did it well.

Cornell is one of my favorites, most of his best covers have been mentioned, but he does a great cover of GNR's "Patience," The Beatle's "Come Together," Zeppelin's "Thank You," Marley's "Redemption Song," and my favorite is a mashup of U2 and Metallica's "One" where he uses the music to the U2 song and the lyrics of the Metallica song and it is brilliant. There are several other Beatles covers and other Seattle band covers too.

This is arguably better than the original

I like the cover, but I have to disagree. The original to me is one of the songs you share with the aliens when they land to show what kind of art we have and try to convince them they shouldn't obliterate our species because we have something great to offer.

I like that he covered the song because it's great for people to discover it/rediscover an absolutely incredible song by an absolutely iconic and awesome singer/songwriter in Chapman.

If someone is going to get a lot of credit for a cover, I think you have to do something unique with it, or just be a flat out better singer/musician. It's about as straightforward a cover as he could do. And personally I don't think he's the singer Chapman is.

I like the sound of his version better, probably strictly because I’m a country fan, but the emotion in the original just can’t be beat.

It’s a good cover. I’m not really a country fan, at least the radio country of today. But I think it’s cool that he has memories of riding around with his dad hearing the song.

Both songs are great. I’m for the original, but he has been profusely complimentary of Tracy Chapman and even said that it was that song that he used to teach himself how to play guitar.

Not sure if hot take or not but Metallica did a better version of Turn The Page than Bog Seger.
