Do they even have BBQ in Omaha? When we lived there, there were no good, authentic options. My first day at work, I asked “What’s the best bbq place in town?” “Uhhhh, Famous Dave’s?” I knew then I was in trouble.

I've had some decent but never anything that wowed me. There are a lot more than there used to be so I guess I need to go out and start looking.

We vacationed in StL a few years ago and although the city and vacation left me under-whelmed, the outstanding food we ate on the trip made up for it and gave me a desire to go back. The BBQ (and other types of food choices) were all outstanding.

Also, I might add that the list the OP linked was at least honest with their methodology used, which is refreshing compared to many bait-click lists we see anymore. They seem to value "restaurants/population" more than top quality, although that was a factor too. Interesting list.

IMHO, the best barbeque is found at mom and pop's out in the country! I like it in all kinds of shapes, sizes and flavors - just none of that nasty slaw on it like they do in Memphis!

True Story:

When I was in the Army on a road trip in West Texas (out by Odessa), we stopped at a truck stop to eat. When Flo asked me what I wanted, without looking at the menu, I casually ordered a barbeque pork sandwich, fries and sweet tea. Flo bowed her neck and said: "Where are you from Honey?" I said: "Originally from Alabama ma'am". She then said: "Well, this is West Texas and beef country! We don't have barbeque pork here." I just smiled and shot back: "Well, let's make that a barbeque beef sandwich, fries and sweet tea!" She smiled and said: "That's better honey!"

the city is a test case for what white flight then middle class black flight (https://www.stlmag.com/news/the-color-line-race-in-st.-louis/) did to cities (not trying to get political here); it is what it is.

its a very interesting city now. did you guys do: the zoo, forest park, city museum, science center, cardinals game? thats all i can think of now

Minneapolis should NOT be in the top ten! The BBQ up here is hit-or-miss. Famous Dave’s is what they think BBQ is. We have a couple of good spots, but not #9.

I do miss the original Battle’s in Ames. That was good BBQ.

Smokey D's is better than Jack Stack. Jack Stack is overrated IMO.
