Bernstine over LJ?

Re: Pretty much nailed it...

amazing since our lousy 2008 team was tied in the 4th quarter against a good Iowa team if I recall, and that so-call infraction was the biggest bullsh$t call of the year. The ball was recovered by ISU in Iowa territory. Instead, Iowa got 15 more yards and retained possession

Years past, Bob Sanders got away with spearing constantly by leading with a shoulder pad to the Qb/WR's chin.

I think he knocked out three Big 10 QB's in one season with tactics like that--and never penalized

That's not spearing. Would be illegal by today's rules, but what you just described isn't spearing.

clearly led with his shoulder - bad call

I'm guessing it was so clear from the other side of that play. Obviously, it wasn't the right call. But from where the ref was standing, it probably looked like he was leading with his helmet. Iowa got hosed on a play like that in the 2006 Outback Bowl.

Correct. He was adept at it though. Great player.

I remember a local TV guy filmed him working out prior to the draft. He was a physical freak

Was at the game-I agree it all depended on the angle at which you saw that happen. It looked like a good call from my seat, but when I got home and watched the replay on Tv, not so much.
