Just moved to Ankeny not to long ago, haven't had the opportunity to stop into Benchwarmers yet. Will this be a good place to catch the game tomorrow while having a few brews?

It's ok. Food is mostly good, beer is reasonable. Waitresses are usually young and attractive. It's certainly better than some other places.

It's good. Locally it would be top 3 sports bars. Sports page is good, too.

BWW is always good (not local, a chain)

I'm pretty new to the area too, Altoona though. Anything here? Or those Ankeny places my best bet?

EDIT- I want to say Sports Page is the bar I went too once, besides the obvious BWW. Wasn't for a game, but it looked like it would be great for watching games at.

BWW is very crowded though. Great atmosphere on Gameday. Haven't had a Gameday at sports page but the food is good. And I was at the ISU/Iowa football game at Benchwarmers and it was good food with good atmosphere.

but BWW has a Jamaal Tinsley jersey and that does it for me.

Lots of good TVs at Jethros. Kippy's in Eklhart is the shizzle.

Benchwarmers is the place to go to. Good bar food, cold beer, good waitresses. Probably my favorite bar in Ankeny.

Yeah it would be a good place. The only issue is they dont have a single massive tv for games like this. But there are tons of smaller ones. Good food and pretty good beer prices. They revamped it a year or so ago, and it is much much better than the old benchwarmers. Plus it is a good local business. Don't go to BWW.

Second on jethros for Altoona.

Third for Jethros. Never watched a game there, but they have a tv's all around the perimeter. More importantly awesome wings, bbq, and 32oz mason jars of beer (don't worry, no Aggies in sight).

Do not get to Ankeny/Des Moines area often where is this place and The Sports Page located? Thanks in advance.

SPortspage is just south of 18th street on HWY 69/ANkeny Blvd/NE 14th st in Ankeny. Just north of the old HS (now a middle school) but on other side of road.

I like both Benchwarmers and SP. Pizza is better at BW but the other food is better at SP. Get the St Mary's melt and thank me later.

There are a couple spots in BW where it can be harder to see the TV where in SP there is not a bad spot in the place. I did like the "character" of the old BW better though. Just not the same when I don't leave there anymore with the overwhelming stench of their grease permeating from my clothes.
Free popcorn at BW which is a plus when watching a game.

I have not been in the Ankeny Jethros yet and was thinking about trying it out for a late lunch today. Alright for watching games?

Ankeny Jethros seemed almost identical to the WDM location to me, and very similar to Altoona as well. They're all large open rooms with TV's lining the perimeter. Who knows how many tv's will be tuned to the game, but I would imagine quite a few.

Thanks that one is right by my office so I go quite a bit. Thinking we will celebrate the end of the 1st grade bball season today with a postgame stop at Jethros.

It would be ok for watching, ask for a table in the back. I would eat lunch and then head over to Benchwarmers or even 34's before I stayed at jethros for a game.
