Don't play hero ball, pretty simple stuff.

Did you watch the second half? Hero ball has always been a part of Hoiball. Every player on this team is guilty, many with a higher frequency than BDJ, with less rebounding and defense. One of the most limiting influences on this season has been a poor plan in incorporating BDJ into the offense. Long twos are not that big of deal, not when you have guys jacking up horrible 3s.

BDJ's biggest issue has been discipline on defense, but that too is widespread.

Go from starting to 6th man to barely playing all the while the "main guys" get away with stupid turnovers and lazy defense, but you are the one singled out. And then to top it off getting punked like that on Sr night would have put me over the top.

I think this is a good point. Tough for anyone, much less a guy that has been the star his whole (young) life, to accept less than their inflated expectation.

He may be an exception to what we have witnessed with these other transfers. Most have put behind whatever made them leave their old teams and thrived under Hoiberg. He may not have the same approach. Given the reasons for getting kicked off two teams already, as well as what we heard about his "neighborliness" at the time of his arrest, he may just not get it.

I think he is just experiencing the bench the same way all our other bench players are. With the resurgence of Thomas, we now have 3 guys on the bench who can go off at any time. If you don't prove yourself in those couple minutes you are in, and let's face it, that first half was awful, you get to spend most the game on the bench.

I am confident that Fred was honest with him as to what his role would be with this team, if he's disappointed I can understand, but he needs to improve the bench attitude and play his part.

He was playing with high efficiency since losing the starting role. His defense was the one bright spot in the BU game. So I'm not sure why so many think he's being benched for performance/attitude. I really think he was injured in that first half.

I have no inside knowledge of the situation but the way people interpret his body language may not be correct. Most of us have played sports with people that were not cheerleaders when playing. Those people simply put their head down and play the game. I do not fault anyone for having that personality. I love Naz and his personality, however, a person cannot fault BDJ a bit because he does not outwardly show that same emotion. Not everyone is designed to have that personality, it doesn't mean they don't feel the same way on the inside.

I agree with you totally here. Body language of a kid that is truly trying hard, having a bad game and just being frustrated with themselves, not teammates can look awfully selfish. Maybe he is frustrated because he is failing his teammates. Nobody thinks of this typically. Maybe he thinks he isn't helping as well as he should. I never see him barking at his teammates at all. You know who I did see barking at their teammates a lot, and it could have been interpreted much different than it was, especially given his history, Deandre Kane.

BDJ would be much more effective in my opinion offensively if he drove it to the hoop strong and got the and ones, and resists taking all the fadeaways. Kane did that ALOT, the things that typically happen--> 2 shots, and 1s, layups/dunks, no-calls (leads to make-up calls) or rejections. Most of those are positive things. I hope he gets it right, I really do. Its on him now.

I like BDJ, but he's 2-14 in the last 3 games and started against OU. He's gotten his opportunities, but hasn't done anything with them the last 3 games.

BDJ has made 1 of his last 10 3's. If that was Matt Thomas, he would be getting crucified on here.

Competitive people want to contribute. When they notice people that don't, they get fired up. That's good.
If they are singled out for something while others aren't spotlighted for the same thing, they get fired up, and they should.

Whether that happened with Bryce or not is up in the air, but your approach is really just looking to demotivate talented and competitive people.

Some of the people I work out with daily do just that. It doesn't indicate that they aren't working hard or lack motivation. They just carry themselves differently.

Some people are just quiet in their mannerisms, and people take that all sorts of ways. For Bryce, who never really got a solid Cyclone welcome, they tend to take it as aloof and disinterested, even when he does things to show otherwise.

I agree. On the OK game highlights, he is standing with two other players and all of them are clapping, no one is cheering or doing anything else. This is BDJ's last chance and if anyone can get him back on track, Fred can. We will need him to play well if we're to advance deep in the Conf. and NCAA tournaments.

I agree. I think it was Heft or maybe Walters who said he is misunderstood because he is a really quiet person and that his teammates love him so I think the criticism has been unfair. He has a bad game and people start raining on his body language but guys like Long have had bad games lately too and people aren't all over him. I mean it was just a couple games ago that he was one of the key guys on a three game winning streak.

So you're saying you and/or Bryce are better able to assess talent and performance than Fred? I doubt that. IF Bryce's issue is he believes he knows what it'll take the TEAM to succeed better than Fred, then he's making a critical mistake youngsters make all the time, growing a little sac hair and thinking you know it all. Fred will do all he can to help Bryce succeed, IF the kid will listen.

I don't know if BDJ was pouting about playing time or is just not an extrovert like some of his teammates, but I'm certainly not going to speculate about a player who by all accounts is doing everything Fred has asked of him. Prior to Monday, BDJ was our 2nd leading scorer despite having the 5th in terms of minutes (he now is 3rd behind Monté). Not exactly inefficient.

I speculated that he wants to contribute, and that competitive people don't like to be singled out for things (if that's happened) that they can see other people continuing to do.

Please, though, continue on with your thorough understanding of the guy. Considering other viewpoints is clearly not on the table for you today, so I'm glad you're not in charge.
