Adding onto Hilton would have cost us 300-400 parking places and would have detracted from the classic achitecture of Hilton. We did the right thing -- for cheap money. How long will it be before the U of I builds its multi-million dollar practice facility -- six years maybe.

They built it just like the old days - whatever brick you had in the lot, you used. It did not have to match.

Being in the industry, I can tell you with certainty that the design was intentional, not based on what masonry was in-stock or in the yard.

I often have a difficult time understanding the Architect's design intent on buildings, but from their perspective, there is always a method to the madness!

The facility hasnt recieved Nike Elite status. :jimlad:

+1 well done!

Ironically, the reason this building is more maroon than Cardinal is the exact same reason our Unis were too maroon. Metal panel suppliers have a group of standard colors; If a custom color is chosen, the cost goes way up!

More like 4 months.

Looks like its coming along nicely and very quickly...I guess it's a little longer than I thought since I've been to Ames and there was barely anything but dirt there so it's good to see. Thanks for posting!

Breaking ground in august or september according to an article in the cedar rapids paper.

How old is that article, because I remember hearing that they were going to have to hold off on the facility because of the economy.

Yeah it was in the gazette yesterday they are almost halfway to their $20 million fundraising goal and they break ground this fall. It will be a 2 year project not sure when their facility will actually open but I imagine it is fall 2011.
