Basketball talent....

Hawks win by at least 15, but I don't think I want to take the time to go over any details. :jimlad:

Judging by your OP you're interested in rational discourse. This post doesn't seem like it. Perhaps you could extend me the courtesy of an honest answer. Or are you just a typical troll?

What's the difference to you? You seem to take trolls and rational fans in the same manner.

By taking the sarcasm route, it was just a lazy post by me. My apologies. To be honest with you, I would hope the Hawkeyes could be good enough to beat your Cyclones, but that is probably wishful thinking on my part and I will probably have to accept a loss in Ames this year.

As an Iowa fan, I feel for you. I know what that can do to a team.

Interesting:

The ISU fan takes national discussions about their team as a positive - might have a good season.

The uofi fan takes national discussions about their team as a negative - ala Rhabdo.

Yeah somebody needs to nut punch hawk11. I assumed the same thing. If he was likening us to hawk nation and national attention, he had me searching for articles on 4 or 5 transfers getting busted or put in the hospital. Seriously had me googling.
`
Don't ever do that again.

I believe he was referring to all the national attention Iowa's football team was receiving prior to the 2010 football season. You know, all the articles about winning Big Ten titles and being a sleeper for the National Title Game. Those things obviously never came to fruition, but the (positive) attention was there nonetheless. Your attempt at sarcasm is noted.

At least someone understood.

Well I wasn't likening you to that, but you take it however you want.

Actually it wasn't sarcasm. I was actually somewhat alarmed. I can't help what comes to mind lately when hawks and national press are put together, especially the way that he worded it. I really wasn't trying to be a smart ***. I did think oh no whats going on. The way that he worded it, it sounded like the other shoe dropping type of thing.

Truely what I thought of when he said that.

I get your point, and while true, it's not like Cyclone nation has had great press recently other than the nice recruits they have coming in as well as the transfers that are set to play this year.

But I was more discussing what national press can do to a team when they are picked to do well. Not all schools fall under that category, but it seems Iowa falters when the pressure of the national spotlight is upon them. That, or they just weren't that good to begin with. Probably a combination of both.

Iowa fan here. There's a lot of talk on the basketball board about this Cyclone team making the NCAA tournament this year.

I'd like to hear some opinions on why you think this Cyclone team is so talented.

Also, how much more talented is this ISU team compared the Hawkeyes, give your reasons why.

It's fairly simple really.

4 guys that averaged 38%+ from 3 in their last collegiate season.
2 guys that were considered their previous teams best defenders.
1 guy with 2 final four appearances.
1 5 star recruit that by all accounts from people near the program, inlcluding coaches, is the real deal.
1 highly regarded recruit coming out of HS that by all accounts had his confidence crushed by a system he didn't fit in.
2 athletic posts that have been reported to be able to bench in the 350 area (been awhile for ISU to have strong post presence).
4 returning players, two of which saw significant minutes last season. Inlcuding one being given an honorable mention for All B12 and the other having an impressive freshman year.
1 incoming 1st team JuCo All American.
1 incoming freshman ranked as the 3rd best prospect in NY.
1 incoming freshman named to 1st team all Michigan.

4 guys that have been practicing together against a B12 caliber team day in, day out for over a year.

I liked this guys response best to your orgional post.

I can't say I pay a lot of attention to what's going on with Iowa basketball(despite the fact it's force fed to me living in Eastern Iowa), but doesn't sound like there has been much of a talent upgrade at Iowa, so that leads me to believe your record won't be a heck of a lot different than it was last year.

Will ISU make the NCAA? Who knows. I think ISU fans should jump for joy if we make the NIT after the last 5 years of misery. I do think the loss of Lutz will have some impact, but that's really being blown out of proportion. Jim Hallihan wasn't the reason Johnny Orr won in Ames and Wayne Morgan wasn't the reason Larry Eustachy did too. Fred Hoiberg is our coach and he had a great rookie year and in my opinion he can only improve.
