Basketball: Quarters vs Halves

It seems like there would be less stoppage w/ quarters, assuming it follows WBB structure. I "worry" there would be eventual move to cram an additional break into each quarter (under 7, under 4) because that's just the way things go. Not like I could control it if it DID happen.

Fewer stoppages, but each is longer.

ESPN bumped its MBB TO length to 3:00 this year, for 27:00 of total break.

A switch to the WBB format would mean 7 TO of probably 3:45 each (26:15) in order to not lose ad inventory.

3:45 is longer than most FB media TO.

The only way that works is to make the three timeouts longer so that the ad revenue doesn't change.

Right now, ESPN controlled media TOs are 3:15 and CBS controlled media TOs are 3:45. You'd have to go to 4:00 and 4:30 at least and that's a much bigger disruption in flow in my eyes.

I am not even sure I should comment on how the game is played. I was football/wrestling/rugby person and our only rule in basketball was "If you can't play good, play hard." Not sure we introduced the concept of fouls.

It is about time for the governing body to step in and say, "We control the length of timeouts, not you." If it means there isn't quite as much TV money, so be it. They keep extending timeouts but still only schedule a 2 hour window for games which means there are more and more longer missed starts to games because the previous game goes long. When we have people missing the first 8-12 minutes of a game it is a bit ridiculous.

Media partners can start getting creative with advertising by using L-Bar and split screen technology especially during deadball situations that don't extend to a full commercial break.

I may be misremembering, but didn't timeouts used to be 20 and 90 seconds?
