Barry

Such a disappointment. Used to be one of my favorite shows, but the suckitude of the last two episodes is off the charts. This once great show has crashed into the ditch hard.

The last scene was so obvious and stupid.

This season is really dragging. The only thing that keeps me engaged is Bill Hader as a director, which continually is the strongest aspect of each episode. Outside of that, there really hasn't been any great comedy, the story hasn't been engaging, nor do I really feel like it's making any great commentary on anything like previous seasons did.

you guys reminded me i have to watch last nights episode still and im not even looking forward to it.

Last night’s episode was weird. Just two more episodes to go. Should be interesting to see how it all plays out.

I guess a little redemption (for me).

I learned that one of the preacher voices was Bill Burr. Did not catch that at first, will have to rewatch. I don't mind a dream sequence, but two episodes is too long for a quick hitter like Barry.

Last night's episode was pretty good especially compared to the pain of the previous episode.
I hated the time skip and the religious-nutjob turn this last season has taken. And I just don't understand "The Raven." How did a wimpy hitman handler come to be a powerful force in a prison full of hardened criminals? Fuches is not a very intimidating character so it makes no sense.

Fuches got respect in the prision by not cracking under the beating the warden game him early in the season for not giving Barry's location even though he had no idea. He started becoming his Raven persona based on that street cred. Plus 8 years in prison prob changed him.

I thought this was a great ending. I still have a lot of mixed thoughts on S4/the series as a whole, but based on where they ended up I really enjoyed it.

Fittingly weird ending to a weird season, IMO. Not sure I've seen a show whose tone changes so much from start to finish. It went from being this (very) dark comedy to this almost artsy extended dream sequence or something.

I didn’t love the time jump this season when it happened after what I thought was the best episode to date. That being said even though this is probably not a top 20 show for me I really liked it and can make the argument it’s the most creative show in years. The dark comedy/ drama in a 30
Minute show is wild. Can’t wait to see what Hader does next.

It's definitely in top 10 comedy for me, maybe not top 10 overall shows. First seasons were just THIS good imo, 3rd feelt a bit weaker but still good.

4th season wasn't great, especially compared to the first three. But, I think the issue was that they painted themselves into a corner so much at the end of the 3rd season that there really wasn't anywhere better to go to finish it out.

I guess my real issue with this seasonw as that NoHo Hank was the best comedy relief the first 3 seasons. Now in the 4th season he basically became more straight dramatic outside of a few instances (like with the rocket). And Sally could have been dropped around the end of season 2. Turning her into an alcoholic didn't help anything.

Barry is such an interesting show to try and rank. On one hand Season 1 is one of my favorite individual seasons of any show of all time. The satirizing of LA/acting world, Hader/Root's chemistry, and Henry Winkler having the time of his life on camera is all just so great. As much as I do like 2 & 3, it doesn't quite have the same charm 1 has, mostly because Henry Winkler is near comatose all of 2 (though Noho quickly steps up to fill that void). I feel like killing Moss really painted them into a corner. That and I think they were terrified of people wanting to be like Barry so immediately had to show he clearly wasn't good.

On the flip side, the series is a great watch because you can see how Hader evolves as a director and story teller. Season 1 is very barebones from an artistic standpoint but as it goes on it gets more and more into that realm.
