Barnett to start against Texas Tech

I'm not sure stopping or not changes it. The ball was rather high and Lenz went up for it.

Absolutely does. Josh wasnt running an in. He keeps running and he gets deeper in his route by a couple yards. Would have been a completed pass

No you don't. Most teams though have at least one go to receiver that rarely comes out of the game though. How many wr's does okie st generally play in a game 4-6?

I don't think any "spread style" has a WR that only "rarely" comes off the field. It would be interesting to see, but I'm hazarding a guess that Blackmon, for example, is on the field for fewer than 85% of the snaps.

I don't quite understand why we're analyzing this one interception in great detail. I think there's a big enough sample to realize that Jantz turns the ball over at an unacceptable rate, even if each TO isn't 100% his fault.

I'd take that bet.

Baylor is one of the best spread teams out there and they only play 4 WR's. When you have really good WR's why take them out? You only play 8 in a game when you got 8 very average WR's

Our defense played GREAT on Saturday. Don't know what game you were watching.

...for the first quarter. Then it was carve up time again from the opposing running game. 510 yards given up is NOT a great game by the defense.

I know, I know, blame the offense. The offense was taking longer between snaps then the previous games. 7 of ISU's 15 drives were 3 and out. I believe 3 of those occurred in the first quarter.

The defense stinks...and the offense is inept at best, not a good combo for a team trying win any games.

Define playing. How many do we "play"?

Money
Darks
Lenz
West
Young
Horne
Maybe Gary

That's what I would consider who we play at the position. That's 6 or 7. Two of those guys don't see much time.

I posted this in another thread - TAM had their 2nd fewest points of the season against a bad ISU defense. Only against OSU (top 5 team) did they score fewer points (29). TAM scored more in every game including a pretty good Arkansas team. The defense is the least of our problems, although we got a lotta problems.

33 points. How many does aTm average?

Who cares about yards? We held them to 33 points. The 2nd lowest from A&M all year behind only the Okie State game. Defense played great

I would guess CPR and anybody else who has an interest in ISU winning a FB game would care about yardage gained. While TAMU was racking up yards, they were also racking up first downs and keeping the ball away from ISU's offense, in addition to changing the field position advantage. ISU's offense can't score when they don't have the ball.

It was nice that ISU's defense stopped TAMU on downs in the 4th quarter, but in doing so they gave up over four minutes of posession time and 61 yards of field position. ISU really needed a stop somewhere much earlier in that drive, and didn't get it, especially since it started back inside the Aggie 10 yd line.

The defense was ok, but certainly not great.

A&M has a ridiculosuly talented offense. If you believe in moral victories, ISU's defense holding a vastly more talented unit to 33 points is certainly a moral victory.
Defense is an after-thought in this league though. How many pros are on Okie's defense? Look what Tech did to them.
If you cant score 30+ points in this league, you arent going to win. Period. Defense is irrelevant. Anyone who thinks differently hasn't got a clue what the big 12 is all about now.

The whole "they have the ball and we don't" thing in football is so overblown. It really doesn't matter. You are going to get one possession for every one of their possessions give or take maybe one. Efficiency is a much bigger deal. Yards matter, but they really don't matter if that makes sense. Maybe it matters in terms of field position but if they don't score they don't score. I don't see that as an excuse for the offense to at least not balance out the field possession.

To be clear- I think our offense has been borderline awful. I also don't think its all on Herman. The bubble screens were ridiculous but when you have guys dropping balls, that's not on the OC, IMO. I strongly believe in the delegation of responsibilities on a football staff so the dropped balls or receiver errors are on either Mess or the players. Mostly the players. At some point the players have to be held responsible. There is a certain amount of coaching responsibility there too but the coaches can't do everything. It's sort of like parenting, IMO. You can raise a kid as well as possible but when they go off on their own, they have to be able to make decisions and do the right things.

I think our defense has been average. I think against Texas they were good. Baylor, I still believe they were good. I thought the gameplan looked to be to let everyone but Griffin and the WRs beat us deep. As I have noted, we were off the field twice because of good execution only to have offsides calls. Again, there's some coaching things there but, again, at some point the players have to do the right things. Mizzou was awful all around. aTm is one hell of an offense. Holding them to 33 points, IMO is pretty good but let's not forget they were able to go pretty conservative late. That may have hurt or helped the yardage situation. Losing that game, IMO is on the offense. We had numerous opportunities to get the game within a possession and they didn't get it done. I am not going to go into a long diatribe on what I think everyone is doing wrong but it's not one group or person. IMO, who the QB is right now is irrelevant until other things are fixed.

The number of possessions doesn't matter. It's about number of plays, and the points scored on those plays, which speaks to the offensive efficiency you mentioned. If you are playing a team that characteristically scores more points per play than your team does, You have to limit the number of plays they get, or somehow alter their and your characteristic points per play. It will probably be a combination of all. So depending on where your team comes down against your opponent, your opponent having the ball more than you do could decrease your chances of victory.

This point per play sample size is small right now (only four games per team), but...

For the MU game:
ISU ran 76 plays: 76 * 0.241 = 18.3 (actual score 17)
MU ran 87 plays: 87 * 0.393 = 34 (actual score 52)

For the TAMU game:
ISU ran 73 plays: 73 * 0.241 = 17.6 (actual score 17)
TAMU ran 90 plays: 90 * 0.507 = 45.6 (actual score 33)

It's predicting pretty well for ISU. It might also suggest that ISU's defense is erratic.

For where ISU is right now, the number of plays doesn't matter. ISU's offense is quite out of whack with the rest of the conference.

However, a good portion of the Big 12 teams right now are around 0.5 ppp or better. When those teams play, who has the ball more could play a very big part in who wins.

Steele needs an attitude adjustment, Its hard for a 22 year old who wins 3 games and beats our rival to avoid all of the hype he gained in those first three weeks, Tshirts, Girls, Media... It absolutely went to his head. Issues like this translate to a guy who is overconfident around his teammates, for a guy who just got here, that is not a good thing. Our offense has no cohesiveness after a losing streak. Barnett has a different attitude and they players take differently to him, not to mention he has had a lot more time with these players. Its sad to see that our offense doesn't have good relationships together, .

Our offense needs to hit a reset button Jared Barnett starting.
I hope things change for Steele because I think he is a tremendous athlete and has a hell of a lot of potential at the QB position if he can get his act together.
That is no disrespect to Jared, he had a good first performance, for the time being however, I think a refocused Steele gives us the best shot to win.

But none of that really matters in the game. 7 points in 15 plays is the same as 7 in one play. The best to measure is in points/possession and if you do less you will lose. If you do more you win. Thats black and white and it removes how you do it from the equation because that doesnt matter.

Did you watch the same game that I did? A&M had the worst pass defense in the country, and he still made mistakes.

That's your prerogative. But after reading the The Doc Spot prior to the game, I'll wait to see how things play out. The only reason it would make sense to me for CPR to already announce JB as tyhe starter is that he's allowing Jantz a chance to heal, rather than leaving the competition open this week.

I think that you quickly forgot that the OL was horrible, two starters missing, and Jantz had absolutely no protection in that game.

However it sorts out, it will. I'm still looking forward to the future of this team, regardless of whoever is starting at quarterback.
i agree, jantz hasnt been the same since the uconn game... he looks 3 steps slower and his throws are off, im assuming due the foot... i mean he cant accelerate to run and he cant plant to throw... he needs to get healthy, he'll be plenty confident when hes at 100%... and barnett was extremely unimpressive to me, im sorry but 16-36 for 180 yards isnt good... period... and oh, no turnovers vs the worst pass D in the country, great... we wont win a game with barnett at qb, sorry... but i do think jantz should sit this week, let him rest and i think we should give him a shot vs kansas... good opportunity to regain his confidence vs a terrible defense...
