Barnett to start against Texas Tech

I'm not buying into the "Jantz hasn't been the same since he injured his ankle" argument at all.

Go back to the posts after the UNI game. I think we quickly forget that Jantz stunk it up for 3 1/2 quarters of that game. And he went 0-4 with 3 INTs on his first 4 throws of the UCONN game, or something like that, all BEFORE he injured his ankle at the end of the 1st half of the UCONN game.

Jantz has shown the ability at times to make plays that probably only he can make. That is a fact. That is what is so exciting about him.

HOWEVER, he has made crucial mistakes time and time again that have really cost his team. I think the coaching staff just kept thinking he would eventually get over making these stupid mistakes, but we're now 7 games into the season and and he comes out and throws WAY too high on his first throw of the game, which lead to yet another first drive turnover. That was not a difficult throw at all, probably around 8 yds or so, and Lenz jumped as high as he could and could only manage to barely get a hand on it.

The coaching staff then gave Jantz another chance, and he gets a ball tipped and nearly intercepted again.... followed up by a 10 yd throw to Money that Money had no chance of even getting a hand on. It was just too much for Rhoads to stomach any longer at that point, and I don't blame him a bit.

Barnett showed yesterday that he's WAY more accurate than Jantz, if only the WR's could catch a ball for him. I'm not saying Barnett is great, but he allowed us to stay in the ballgame. And remember, Barnett had to come into the game cold off the bench. I thought he did pretty well for being thrown into such a tough situation. He didn't get the luxury of his first playing time coming against UNI like Jantz did.... he got Texas A&M. He looked like he was really in control and not afraid of anything at all. And the coaches weren't afraid to let Barnett throw down the field either, like they were with Tiller. I think they have a lot of faith in Barnett's passing ability.

So, yes, Jantz might have an ankle that hurts, although he seems to run on it just as good as he ever has IMO. But the fact is... Jantz was bad before he hurt his ankle too. He leads the nation in turnovers for crying out loud. He was horrible for over 3 quarters against UNI, and threw 3 INTs in the first quarter against UCONN all before getting injured. He played pretty well against Iowa, although accounted for 2 fumbles in that game too.

The ankle is just an excuse being used by Jantz apologists IMO. The fact is, Jantz on occasions this year has come back to win games that he almost cost us in the first place. As I said, he can make some amazing plays now and again, but his inconsistency just can't be overcome every single week.

I really think next year will be a battle between Barnett and Richardson. Time to look to the future. Jantz has a trait that is sometimes good for QB's to have and sometimes bad IMO. He has the ability to tune out the last play he just made and not let it affect him. However, I think that same trait also means he has the propensity to make those same mistakes over and over again because he doesn't seem to learn from them and realize how critically they cost his team.

Let's ride Barnett and see what he can do with some actual game preparation for a week. Maybe at some point we'll need to go back to Jantz if Barnett isn't progressing, so maybe Jantz should keep his head in the game too, in case we need him. Just a thought.

Absolutely agree.

I also remember Rhoads saying I think after the UNI game, there would be some growing pains with Jantz. Referencing his 3 picks and poor play in the first 3 quarters. He played a good game against Iowa. Then was back to the same against Uconn, Texas, Baylor and Mizzou. I think the coaching decided that they couldn't afford to live with his growing pains anymore.

I cant believe how many are throwing Jantz under the bus. IMO he did nothing to be benched yesterday, two of his incompletions hit the receivers right in the hands and the INT certainly wasn't his fault (again). Rhoads wants to light a fire under his *** and if anyone thinks Steele doesn't care about what happened yesterday has no idea. He was very upset Saturday night.

It was good to see some very accurate passes with velocity from Barnett, however we have glaring WR problems. Steele Jantz is the better QB, but he needs to get his act back together. He got a big head after the first three weeks and Rhoads needs to bring him down and get him on the same page as everyone else.

I haven't really ever questioned anything Rhoads has done, but I think Steele was pulled to early yesterday.

his INT throw was way overthrown....like I said earlier Herman's offense + QB that turns it over too much= nightmare and most likely an *** kicking

Jantz era is over. Barnett makes less mistakes.
Did you watch the same game that I did? A&M had the worst pass defense in the country, and he still made mistakes.

I'm not buying into the "Jantz hasn't been the same since he injured his ankle" argument at all.
That's your prerogative. But after reading the The Doc Spot prior to the game, I'll wait to see how things play out. The only reason it would make sense to me for CPR to already announce JB as tyhe starter is that he's allowing Jantz a chance to heal, rather than leaving the competition open this week.

Go back to the posts after the UNI game. I think we quickly forget that Jantz stunk it up for 3 1/2 quarters of that game.
I think that you quickly forgot that the OL was horrible, two starters missing, and Jantz had absolutely no protection in that game.

However it sorts out, it will. I'm still looking forward to the future of this team, regardless of whoever is starting at quarterback.

You think wrong in this case.

That said...he'll likely get another shot at some point unless JB just goes bonkers.

You are clueless if you don't think Jantz should have been pulled yesterday. He showed absolutely no ability whatsoever to move our team at all. In fact, he was only helping A&M's cause. He should have been pulled sooner IMO.

The INT was WAY too high. It was all on Jantz. And that was only like a 7 yd pass. And one of his next few passes landed about 5 yds from the intended target in Money Reynolds, who was wide open by the way.

Barnett has deserved a chance to see what he can do IMO. I'm not guaranteeing he'll be any better, but you can hardly be any worse. Jantz leads the nation in turnovers.

You are clueless in general.

Where am I defending Jantz?

I'll await your answer.

I'm just as disappointed in his performance as anyone, but I'll let the coaches decide what they want to do instead of trying to be a coach/player from a message board.

my statement was more of a question..my bad..hopefully Barnett shows that this offense can succeed in this conference...because from Jantz I didn't see how it would work..hopefully I'm proven wrong

This is absolutely classic!

CyDude16 thinks I'm clueless because I think Barnett should start, AND CyDude16 is going to trust the coaches decision.

Well CyDude16... do you realize that the coaches have already said that Barnett is starting next week? So are the coaches as clueless as me then?

What's Jantz's old form? To me he has been good for one game and about 2 other quarters. He really hasn't been good. I thought Barnett was impressive in how he made decisions and didn't get into deep trouble. I think, with Steele we never would have had a chance in the 4th. At least Barnett had us in a position where we could make it a game. I like naming Barnett.

Exactly. Steele got some deserved credit for some good play in some 4th quarter finishes, but at the same time, it was his errors that contributed to us being in the position where we needed to come back to win in those games.

Where did I say that you are clueless because you think Barnett should start.

You are just clueless in life. Go start a meltdown thread again!

looks like ur defending Jantz, curious as to why

That still makes no sense, even if you add a question mark... I'll await your answer to my question, to where I defending Jantz. I await.

The separation our receivers got today seemed worse than any other game this season. That had been an improvement this year over the last few...but a step back today.

Wasn't much space to fit the ball in today. With A&M being such a poor pass defending team, that was a disappointment.

This.
I believe A&M was dead last of all D-1 teams in that category.
I'm actually beginning to worry about Kansas. I really like Rhoads and hate the thought of him going winless in conf play this year. Its a real possibility though. Our offense simply isnt good.

Ya dead last against the pass means nothing when you are top 10 against the run and top 20 offense. Sounds like teams with a proven qb have had to throw the ball to compete with A&M.
