Bad to Worse

Okay to contradict the sky is falling and there's nobody out there statements....

There are plenty of quality players out there that could be late qualifiers etc that people have yet to consider - but, if we have schollies and these kids qualify, we can offer....the thought of playing in the big 12 right away or not playing Div. 1 is a very real situation for some of these kids....

Check these kids out....only looking at 3-5 position players right now - i think thats our biggest need for next year.

Delwan Graham #140 Juco list....

Originally signed to LSU out of high school and screwed up - lost his schollie. Went to Chipola and is slated to graduate. But, out of HS he was ranked as the 23 best prospect for PF in the 2008 class. Player Evaluation:
One of the top athletes in his class, especially when it comes to leaping and running in transition. Powerful kid who would excel in up and down style.

Bottom line is guys, as much as we all dislike the situation - its time to make the best of it rather then continuing to hate - our hatred of the situation is not helping at all. Trust me, i could vent and be disgusted as much as anyone else.. There is a ton of talented kids out there still available - especially JUCO kids, we just need to find one-two quality kids ready to contribute day one.....they're out there....

But, when it comes to getting new recruits excited about ISU, read these message boards and they're goin to Middle Tennessee State instead of ISU....

Looks like for survival we need to be Juco U.

KMAK_ATTACK look I am with you in that I want ISU & GMac to succeed together. I want the players we have and have signed to be great at ISU. My point is the players we were on that we had established relationships with went elsewhere. I would love it if some of the guys you highlighted signed with ISU. None of them from your post currently list ISU and it is tough to move up the list late. Your point however is valid that we do have something to offer that other schools may not...playing time in BCS conference. The whole point of my post wasn't intended to be sky is falling, but simply these guys are not coming and it is going to get even tougher for GMac to pull it out, but i for one will be pulling for him and supporting ISU BB through all times thick and thin.

JCLONED - 100% agree.....two things though...1-losing Robinson was critical to losing several of the recruits we were in on.....to say anything less is underestimating the recruiting impact that Robinson had while at ISU....he is sorely missed.....2-Alot of those guys were being recruited by big time programs, however, some of those programs will have backed off because of the early signing periods and thus reduces the bcs offers some of those kids have.......thus helping us....Trust me - Early playing time for a JUCO is extremely important.

Wesley - i hate to say it but YEP.....with what has occurred this year, we need big 12 bodys just to compete next fall - only option there is JUCOs. I'm surprised that were going after the Wisconsin kid, his body is no where near big 12 ready and thus were signing guys to redshirt? seriously, we could have 8-10 scholarship players, they need to be able to contribute - I know GMAC knows his fate is dependent upon next year, he needs to win.

Frank Martin at Kstate disagrees with you.

Wrong argument. Martin is living the high life based on what Huggy-Bear left behind. He's just maintained it so far.

That being said, Huggins proves the right coach can turn a bad situation around in short order.

Times have changed CloneIce. It isn't getting any easier for ISU to be successful in MBB.

If GMac is replaced in the future, I highly doubt the next coach will find any immediate success. This fanbase is going to have to decide how patient they are willing to be.

Call me a debbie downer but I agree with you. Look at a program like Indiana - loaded with history, huge number of recruiting advantages ISU does not have, and they've been just awful two straight years. Just terrible. If McD is let go after next year we're likely looking at that kind of situation. At least it's a lot more likely than the alternative of immediate success. I have no problem with people wanting McD gone but I do have a problem with that assertation.

How is it any harder (or easier for that matter) compared to the 80's, 90's and 2000-05? If you think ISU isn't capable of winning in BBall, then surely you have no hope for Football, because I would argue that it is much easier to compete in Bball. Are you saying that schools like UNI, Baylor, Butler, Purdue have some inherent advantage that ISU doesn't?

It's not. You are totally correct.

We can be competitive and relevant again...and quickly...if we hire the right guy that can recruit the right players. This is not at question in my opinion.

This is much different from FB...in BB only 5 guys get on the court at any one time and 1 or 2 really top flight guys can make a huge impact under the right coach.

I used to love being on the Cyclone Club circuit with JO during the summer when he would talk about our incoming recruits and tell us "Coach, this kid is a hell of a player"...and then the kid would come in and he really could play. Or the summer before Lafester's senior year when he told everyone that the seldom used to that point player could "really fill it up and had a chance to be one of the leading scorers in the conference"...and guess what he was right.

Some guys know how to both identify and use talent...JO was one of those guys. Unfortunately today, we are left with nothing more than getting glowing praise on every guy that signs with ISU from our "insiders" and then have to watch as these same guys are far from their advanced billing in most instances.

I guess I view the same situation entirely differently. With-in the state of Indiana, it was Butler that was in the NC game...with-in the state of Iowa,it was UNI that made the Sweet 16...with-in the state of New York, it was Cornell ...in California it was St. Mary's. Established tradition and resources mean as little now as ever, which is a good thing for ISU imo.
