I'd guess that GM's looking to draft WR's aren't placing too much stock into their wonderlic scores.
On top of that, I suspect most players even taking the test don't try that hard (certainly not trying to imply he's a genius or anything, but still).

Exactly. From many of the accounts I've heard, many players don't take it seriously, and basically blow off.
I don't see any real benefit in it for the NFL and I can't blame the players for blowing it off, but as someone who had to take it for a job interview years ago, it's not exactly difficult. I'm fairly confident the majority of this board could score a 20 even if they napped through the damn thing.
Tom Brady (scored 33) was talking with Peyton Manning (scored 28) about the three qualities of a great quarterback, number one was being 'smart.' Aaron Rogers scored 35. Andrew Luck 37. Probably applies to some other positions as well, o'line being most obvious; Cody Whitehair 29. Receivers, not so much although Tyreek Hill scored 27.

I sure as hell wouldn't take it knowing that the scores get leaked every single year. If the league can't guarantee the results are confidential then players should skip it.
I can see the importance of the test, if a kid is smart, one would think a smarter kids is going to pick up the system faster and understand his role in it better. Have less mistakes when hearing the play. Its not the be all to end all, but it should be important.
I guess a low graded kid wouldn't be overthinking a play like a smarter one would.

Stumbled across this in the wikipedia article about the test. Apparently tied for the lowest ever:
If I were a GM or coach I’d want to know if I could have a conversation with one of my players and they could tell me what part of the last sentence was an adjective or a verb just as like a basic level human test. A dumb guy is more likely to be ****** with their money, be controlled by their “entourage”, and just prone to making poor decisions in life.
Its kind of like the face/neck tattoo test.
I don't know about the relevance to football players, but one of my previous employers gave the Wonderlic to prospective employees. The main business was a printing plant where they made custom swag for companies. After they started giving the test, their turnover dropped significantly.
They never told anyone how they scored - only if you "passed" or not. I don't know what was used for passing criteria or if it varied between departments or subsidiaries.
We also had to take a basic psych eval - that was much more worrisome than the Wonderlic. By the time I got done I thought I might have been a serial killer.
