Figured out my Toyota Avalon with 160,000 miles has never had the PVC valve changed. Curious about Cyclone Fanatic mechanics thoughts about genuine Toyota parts vs something I could get at OReiliy's?

Would also add, make sure its not cracked or anything. If it is, it could leak oil.

You could check that site that has commercials that look like they're made by a 5th grader, rockauto.com I think?

Terrible commercials, fantastic site and service. Small things like this, maybe not. But saves a ton on larger repairs and you know what you're getting.

Commercials may be low budget but it's hard to beat their prices. My car dealership clients get all their parts from RockAuto.

Find your oem part number and search ebay and amazon. You can often find the oem part for the same as a cheap one from oriellys, advance, auto zone or napa.

Rockauto always has a 5% off coupon but their shipping usually kills the deals for me. Great place for oil and air filters though.

Order my WIX filters (air, oil, cabin) from them. The WIX oil fiter is half the cost of my local place. I order multiples each time so the shipping is not that bad that way.

Is WIX the only filter brand they sell?

No they have others.

Just an example of their prices. I can buy a WIX 51222R oil filter at Rock Auto for $15.28, if I want that filer anywhere around here (only 2 places carry it Arnold Motor Supply and Karl Performance) they want $26 for it.

Thanks. I’m just not a WIX fan. Know people who made them and seen them in action and avoid them now.

Even with shipping, Rockauto parts are always cheaper than trying to buy anything local. Not even close.

I think you're confusing Wix with Fram. LOL

No. My mom worked at the factory that made all of them basically. I worked at a car dealership and when there saw the differences in filter performance . As a farmer I’ve used many kinds. When at the dealership, bored, we cut some old filters apart, what my mom told me was true. Cut the Wix, frams, and other generics apart and then hit some company ones and you will stop using generic ones.

Fram use to have a bad rap but they have made huge strides in the in quality the past 10 years while Purolator has taken 10 steps back.

The fram ultra is one of the best on the market at the moment. Purolator is now know as the tearolator in the industry.

The scary part is that WIX is now part of the group that makes Purolator and it might just be a matter of time before their high quality may be no more.
