***Auto-Bid Madness 2023***

Could either do that or other option is to re-open it to everyone -- but the final is tonight SEMO vs Tennessee Tech (6 CT I think) so I don't know if everyone will get the message. Wish I had noticed this earlier. Sorry. I'm open to ideas.
There's a lot of ways to look at it. Bottom line, I guess I could go either way with gipper's selection.

When we make our picks, we should be actually looking at teams & records, and unless gipper is really into upsets Little Rock wasn't a strong selection in the first place and would likely have been eliminated along with the rest of our picks. Having him pick now gives him a 50-50 chance at a correct pick when all the rest of us have been eliminated from that conference.

I've gone through and adjusted all of the ones CoKane mentioned except for the Ivy league. They're still playing regular season. All of us selected the top three teams, so I don't think anything will change between now and when their tournament begins next Saturday.

Thanks for your input. I tend to agree. Since everyone else is out in OVC, let's make it a wash and move on. If there were some still in the running, maybe we could find some sort of alternate soluation.

I do feel bad that I overlooked and thanks to @CoKane for bringing it to our attention.

Generally, for this contest I've left it up to is contestants to check brackets and other details. I try to post ineligible teams when possible, but in the past I haven't checked into which leagues that have a cut-off for teams allowed. In some cases a conference seeding might not be known at the time of our deadline

I'll keep it in mind for future challenges, and also ways to alter something about the deadline so something like this is a rare occurrence.

Sorry for TLDR.

Update re: NEC ... Merrimack has advanced to final. The other semifinal, Fairleigh Dickinson vs. St. Francis (Pa.) in progress. Merrimack ineligible for NCAAT auto-bid, so that will go to FDU/SFPa winner).Per our rules for the situation, we'll give credit for either Merrimack or the FDU/STFPa winner, regardless of championship result.

All contestants have 1 of those 3 teams picked.

Updates pertaining to some of our picks:

SoCon: Samford out.
Sun Belt: Marshall out. (Louisiana v Georgia Southern in progress)

--> Something I hadn't noticed, none of us chose Southern Miss to win Sun Belt, even though it's the top seed. I wonder how often that occurs.

I had FDU on mine didn't I? Or are we waiting for that to officially end

Yes, you have FDU.

EDIT: Per our rules, if Merrimack wins NEC championship game, those who selected get a point, even though it it is ineligible for auto-bid.

Anyone who selected FDU already will have a point, since that's the official auto-bid by NEC's rules this season (regardless of title game result).

Per our rules, we'll give credit to anyone who chose either FDU or Merrimack, regardless of what happens in the final (being played Tuesday). Merrimack would be official tourney winner, but is ineligible for autobid; for this season NEC gives auto-bid to runner-up team if Merrimack wins title.

Cliff Notes version: All but one poor sap (me!) has clinched a point for NEC (I picked SFPa).
Okay, I'm confused. People who picked Merrimack only get the point if Merrimack beats FDU, right? That's the reason I haven't listed that win yet...it may be all of us (except you) if Merrimack wins, or it may be about 2/3 of us if FDU wins.

I revised my post, it's still kind of convoluted explanation, but at least it's accurate.

You can wait to officially award the FDU points until after the title game, so it's simpler to keep track of W-L for the chart.
