Obvious to you, but not to others. Just because a team presses a lot and plays uptempo does not make them undisciplined. It is just taking advantage of your player's athletic ability. If you'll check out the final 4's you'll see a lot of it. And like I said before, if Morgan's kind of "undisciplined" means winning seasons, post season wins, and routinely beating top 10 teams, I'll take that anyday. As far as Wes being soft, I doubt anybody capable of playing basketball successfully at the Big 12 level is "soft". And if he didn't like the way he was being treated by Mac, that doesn't make him soft either. The kid was productive playing on a fractured foot all year long for crying out loud. Some of the basketball experts on this board are unbelievable.
this was back in the old days of the NIT when selling tickets mattered and I agree completely that if Jamie wanted us to play ni that tourney he would have. But you can't get rid of a coach who has been to the post season three years in a row.
The people like to bring up this fact seem to forget the fact that McDermott only had 4 players return from the previous year for his first year and he had to throw together a recruiting class filled with pretty much nobodies (at least no other DI schools wanted them). This is the point where people like to blame McDermott for not holding on to those kids and bring up the fact that Morgan didn't have the same kind of transfer problem when he took over for Morgan. But the fact that is missing here is Morgan helped Eustachy recruit and coach those kids, the kids were familiar with Morgan and were comfortable enough to stick around when he took the reigns. The same thing ISN'T true for McDermott, as he wasn't around for the recruiting process and knew very little about him other than he was taking over for a coach they supposedly loved and weren't necessarily thrilled with playing McDermott's "disciplined" style of basketball. So, remind me once again - why is it McDermott's fault that he took over a program that was left in worse shape than when Morgan received it?

Oh, boy. I agree with you 100%. Mac walked into a nightmare, and did better than most would have done with it, maybe than anyone would have done.
But, here goes the merry-go-round. Happens every time someone makes that point. Kudos, though, for the reminder. :yes:
It's his fault because he signed the contract. I'm just kidding.
But it is also a little different seeing as the year before Wayne took over a coach was arrested on a Felony charge and the head coach was fired during a pretty public ordeal where he was drunk with co-eds after a road game.
Wayne was just fired. Probably a little different situation there as well.
Yeah...I call playing nearly an entire CBB season with a broken ankle soft...yep, that is clearly the definition of a "soft" player...you are right...very obvious. Thanks for being so brilliant!
Three years in a row? NIT, NCAA tournament, then nothing. I was pretty frustrated that year, along with everyone else... and I agree. Firing a coach based on those facts is pretty absurd. However, there's the D1 Scheduling controversy that was probably the real cause.
We'll never know. The past is the past. You can continue to whine about it, but it's not going to change the present.
