Assistant Coach Possibilities Thread

Re: Coach Morgan

Morgan will not be hired as the x's and o's guy. The guy could recruit and bring in talent, but had very little structure for that talent. Plus, he was fired by pollard....why would he go back.

Re: Coach Morgan

Will Tiller start at quaterback so we can move AA to wide receiver?

No wait, someone already asked that. My bad.

Re: Coach Morgan

I'm sure Wayne would be available...things have really slowed down with dish sales.

Seriuosly, if Morgan was really a good coach, he would have been hired by someone (for anything BB) by now. Tainted goods with no real skills other than recruiting streetball-type players.

Re: Coach Morgan

"...recruiting streetball-type players."

Translation: black players from the inner city.

Just say what you mean.

Re: Who will be Fred's on bench mentor?

I honestly believe you could see Terry Carrol back here at Iowa State. Hes a guy who knows the school, has head coaching experience, and knows Fred.

No success outside of JUCO ranks, but would be a decent fit.

But if Hoiberg were to recruit the same black player from the same inner city, I doubt anyone would call the player a streetballer.

Re: Who will be Fred's on bench mentor?

you know i think more than anything he needs someone who can look at him and say "Fred, thats not a very good idea." Or "lets go another way, or try something different." I just think a guy like Carrol with years and years of experience of being in the college game would be a great fit.

That is exactly what he needs and as long as fred is willing to listen it would be great success. I think fred knows what he lacks and has no problem turning to someone w/ experience.

Re: Coach Morgan

I don't think his "style" of play was his style of play.....it was the players'. I think he was an excellent recruiter (although perhaps not always above board) but I don't remember him being a great X and O coach. I think this would be a distraction more than anything else, and could create some conflict. Let's face it, he hasn't gotten another coaching job in the last 4 years. There is probably a reason for that.

Re: Who will be Fred's on bench mentor?

I think we've probably already been shot down, just a hunch. But at an assistant position I think that's ok as long as we eventually get our blue-haired Merlin.
Would be happy with any of these:
Steve Fisher (retired from Michigan & San Diego State)
John Cheney (retired from Temple)
Eddie Sutton
Dr. Tom
Don Meyer (Northern State U. coach who retired in Feb.)

you know i think your really reaching if you think a former final four coach is going to come to iowa state to be an assistant for iowa state.... i think your really going to see him going back to guys that have worked with fred and gone onto be head coaches. Especially with Tim Floyd offering help to him.
