We just went the first week of November and have been 10+ times. We have stayed 50% at high rise (new area / Palm beach / calmer waves) and is our preference. We don’t mind staying in the low rise (older area / Eagle beach / wavier). We usually rent from someone that owns at Playa Linda and you can usually find a 2BR with kitchenette and huge patio for $2500/$3000 for the week with sunset views. If traveling with larger groups we will stay at eagle beach at is considerably cheaper but no our preference.
I would highly recommend deep sea fishing, atv rental for a day (don’t do half a day too much to see) and you can drive on every road there with them, sunken ship. I wouldn’t waste money to go to Flamingo Beach at all.
Take USD as everyone accepts them and they all speak English which is amazing, they also speak Spanish and Papiamento which is a blend between Spanish and Dutch I believe.
Feel free to head downtown (cruise ships area) but we generally stay away from there with the cruise ships and it also houses the main area for the island local get together / parties and it becomes a cluster.
Our favorite restaurants are Zeerover and it’s with the experience, drive, everything. You’ll absolutely get the days catch of shrimp, grouper, Mahi, Wahoo and if you get there early enough you’ll see the locals prepare the fish at waters edge. We also like casa tua (palm beach), Dushi bagle (palm beach), Matthew’s (eagle beach casa Del Mar), twist of flavors (eagle beach and best burger on island imo), Scott’s brats (palm beach at playa Linda serving johnsonville brats and hot Italian beef sandwiches)
Also, it is extremely safe to walk on the boardwalk / roads at night time and everyone is so friendly. Beware that it seems like everyone is from Boston / Northeast so just drop a few Breece Hall mentions and you’ll get free beer occasionally. Beer is very expensive down there so it is best to head to a local super market and grab it there if able but preference is balashi chill and they go down smooth. Pack a pool floating me, inflatable cooler, and be prepared to float in the ocean and get a good buzz!
Send me a PM if you have any more questions and have fun, we love it there as well as our kids do too!
