meyer could barely throw a spiral, i think it is hands down arnaud is better than meyer ever was.
I dont think it will be possible for AA to have a slump next year. If he starts slumping than enter Tiller. Meyer never had any one behind him so if he slumped it didnt matter he still played. AA dosnt have that option, if he slumps he'll probably get pulled at least for a little bit so i think there will be a different mindset and both qbs will def be on there toes knowing either one is equally eligable to play next year
Meyer had a great soph season. It lead to most publications picking him as the first team Big 12 qb in 2006. To say AA had a similar saeson to that with no defense helping him is a great compliment to AA. The key, of course, if for AA to get better, unlike Bret, who got worse.
Of course the stats lie. Did Brett spend two or three games that sophomore season laboring through an incapacitating shoulder injury, because his backup had just quit? That affected Austen's stats right there. :yes:
I've been deeply impressed by the way Arnaud stands tall in the pocket and delivers the ball--even when he can see a blitzer bearing down on him, hitting full tilt just as the ball leaves his hand.
You can hand AA all the accolades you want...for me it's TWO wins. He looked very good at time, and very bad at others. Compare with Stanzi of Iowa, eight wins. Until AA wins more games, he is not a proven commodity. I believe we'll see a lot of Tiller next year. Just my opinion.

Iowa actually has something that resembles a defense. Our Cyclones do not.
Let me make this clear for the challenged mammals reading this...
AA was not great this year - but he was good. He was by far not the problem in Ames this season.
Why do people think that the outcome of the game rests on one player? How many winning teams was Archie Manning on? Dan Marino? Were they any less of a player? NO. If Arnaud had Shonn Greene and Iowa's defense/schedule, he would likely have more than the 8 wins they currently have. If Stanzi was our QB, we would have been even worse, with most games ending in a 55-3 type score. I don't understand the people who think we'll see a lot of Tiller this year. Anyone who spouts this crap is falling into the Hawkeye-esque "back up qb is our best player" crap.
Let it go man. Bates is gone. Austen CLEARLY beat him out. Arnaud is the unquestioned leader of this team. To put this season on him is simply sour grapes.
Certainly. However, Meyer had a touch on his deep ball. AA has not fully developed that yet. Touch is a huge part of the long ball.
I never said he WAS the problem, just an observation. Our only two wins came with AA splitting time with Bates. I want a QB who will carry the team on his back to victory. AA may be able to do it in the future, he did not this year. You can blame whoever you want. The W-L will tell the story next year.

Some of the BS on this board is about and stupid as our 2-10 season. I'm glad the latter is over, I just wish the former would stop too. The odd thing is, I know you are smarter than this.

With your logic, Jake would have remained the QB at Iowa. I'm just saying, we don't know if AA will be the man next season. He may be and he may not. If he had looked up at the CU game to see the defense was not even at the line of scrimmage on the spike, he could have walked into the end zone. He had some bigtime plays AND some bigtime turnovers. I hope its simply inexperience, but until he proves it with wins, I'll have to be convinced. It is you with the blinders on if you did not see room for improvement at all positions on the team.
You continually equate Arnaud's skill/play with the team's record. If our defense had any back bone at all, we would have more wins. You want the QB putting the team on his back to victory? UNLV, Arnaud drives 90 something yards with 1:33 left, makes a brilliant 30 yard scramble on a 3rd down, and gets out of bounds stopping the clock. He drills a bullet to Sumrall to tie the game, we score on the first OT possesion, and then... DEFENSE blows the coverage. Game over. KU, after the d has surrendered 35 pts in one half, AA leads a great drive to pull us to a 2 pt gap, then puts two first down throws on the money, only to be dropped (I'll concede 4th down was an overthrow). Colorado, he continually leads the offense on scoring drives to counter our disgustingly porous defense, including ANOTHER 90 yard drive at the end of the game, in which he plays brilliantly, only to be hamstrung by a bad play call at the final gun. When he runs near the goal line, he puts his head down and runs people over, seemingly willing his way to score. I'm not sure what more one guy can do to get a win???

Call it what you want - I was with the right guy all the way. I didn't think Bates was the guy, then flip and say AA was the guy and then now constantly state AA has not proven anything. No flip-flopping here.
I believe AA is our QB, until proven differently, a kid that has show good things, has great potential - yet has things to work on.

Nobody said Arnaud is perfect, but to blame him, or knock him for the team's lack of wins is 100% illogical.
