Arnaud or Meyer in 2007?

if he is big and as atheletic as everyone says he is, he might be needed in the secondary - so he might not be wasting a year. i hope who ever wins the QB battle between the two freshman the other moves to the other side of the ball - need to get the best talent on the field and if Arnaud and Bates are two of the best 22 players on the roster get them both on the field.

Meyer was never a 1st or 2nd round pick, he has good stuff but he has some considerable problems right now, hopefully Peterson and Chiz have addressed them, first of all he takes to long to make the decision, a lot of the problem last year was the o-line, but an equal problem was his inability to make a quick decision in the pressure situation, this is what led to sacks and bad plays, he needs to just read pressure and try to get out of the box to toss the ball out. Right now with last year I would say he is looking at a 6th round pick, but his first two years he would have been a third or fourth, 2nd would be pushing it, 1st would never happen. We have nobody on this team who is 1st rounder, Bowen is probably the closest at this stage, Blythe is prolly a 3rd rounder when it is all said and done. He really needs to show more than just the deep route if he wants to get the big bucks, he truly needs to be an all-around receiver which he never really was under McCarney, it was just run deep and we'll try to get it to you.

Don't be so sure about Meyer automatically being the QB for this year. Chiz is going to play the best QB, whether that player is a senior or isn't. And I've heard Arnaud is giving Meyer a huge run at starting.

I know nothing about Bates other than speculation so it wouldn't be fair for me to judge him at this time. I have seen Arnaud play at Ames High a few times and I love his ability to make plays on the run. Since we'll have to rebuild our O-line, it will be helpful to have a QB make throws while being flushed out of the pocket. At least we know Chizik will pick the best man next fall.

I heard the same thing. I also heard Austen WILL get PT at some point this year.

Do you think Scales will start at RB or will Bass come in and be the man?

Austen has great accuracy, but prolly has to work on the longball and some other things, he will be good, but next year not this year unless he has to step in because Bret is hurt or something

Just as long as Brett doesn't teach him how to throw a long ball

In my NCAA 2k7 Xbox dynasty, Meyer goes pro for his Sr year, Bates edges out Arnaud in 2007 after shared duty for the first few games, and then a true freshman, Kareem Reid shows up for 2008, beats them both out, and throws 40 touchdown passes.

So there's your answer, folks.

We've got a guy who's a possible late 1st round-early 2nd round pick...Arnaud might see a few snaps during garbage time but that's going to be it.
I will be very surprised if Brett Meyer plays a down in the NFL. He was the fifth best QB in the big 12 north last year. I hope I'm wrong

Just remember that last year Meyer was consensus "best Big XII QB." What killed him last season was a porous O-line (that I wouldn't even wish on the likes of Tony Romo ;) )and a system that only allowed him to look at 1/3 of the field per play (thus, often times, a wide open Blythe didn't even get looked at). This season Meyer's under a really good QBs coach and apparently a much better offensive system. Hopefully the S&C coaches are kicking the crap out of the linemen and they'll hold back the defenders. If we're fortunate, Meyer has the season this year he should have had last year and he goes on day 1. If this year resembles last year, look for him in an Arena Football or AF2 stadium next year...

Meyer has the size to get that type of consideration, but his mechanics will hold him back and probably put him more into the 5-7 rounds or UFA barring a great year. Remember Omar Jacobs of Bowling Green (6-4, 224 lbs) - he had a year of 45 TD's and single digit picks his soph. year, followed by a jr year with over 30 TD's again, but his mechanics helped slide him down to a late 5th round pick in 06. If you look at the picture of Meyer in Howie's signature, it tells a lot with his elbow being lower than his shoulder resulting in a lower release point which leads to less consistent accuracy and more passes being batted down. Hopefully the new QB coach will work on these mechanics.

At spring, I was actually really impressed with Austen's mechanics as it appeared his release point was higher and velocity a little better on the slants. I still think Meyer is the better choice to be the QB this year, but I also think the future looks solid.
