Arlen/Yackley to Transfer

I don't understand why Arlen is leaving to get more playing time. I think she would be playing at least 20 min/game this coming season as a sophomore and her playing time probably wouldn't decrease as she continues to develop. Maybe she thinks Anna Prins and other recruits coming in are going to leap-frog her and take all of her time?

If a coach is popular (like Fennelly is), fans have an overwhelming tendency to blame and/or diss the player who leaves the program. Who really knows?
Maybe Arlen's "reason" for leaving the program is perfectly justified, and has nothing to do with playing time or her not being willing to challenge the incoming recruits.
I assume Jamie has/or will be doing an exit interview with her...

Best of luck to the ladies.
We'd never know why they want to transfer: they might feel (or realize) that they're not Big 12 materials, they get bored with basketball (with the committments, training, travels, etc), they want to play more, or they want to change the scenery because they don't like Ames or prefer to be somewhere else.
I wouldn't hold anything against them: they transferred after the end of the season instead of bolted the team in the middle of the season. Will it hurt ISU and BF ? Yes but who knows their replacements might be much better.
I remember Larry Eustachy said "we only want to focus on the players who want to be here". So let's focus and cheer on the ladies who want to stay as Cyclones

end of season options...every player goe's through it!! #1 quit and never play again..#2 transfer and hope things work-out at the new school or #3 stay and learn to play where you are !!!..these options are the same for every div.1 player...not made up..I'am talking from experience.Oh yea and i also told her no matter what she did we loved her and were proud of her!!!

Most of her time (will likely be? / would have likely been?) at power forward. A 6'1" PF isn't that small, particularly one as physical as she is.

Fair enough. I don't know much about women's basketball. I just knew that Wieben was 6'4" and we still got owned by Appel.

Well, she guarded Appel by herself, as per Bill's game plan.
I couldn't help but notice that even UConn, with all their talent, still doubled Appel down low...

We doubled her and they beat the snot out of us. We try to cover her one on one and defend everyone else, they beat the snot out of us. We tried it both ways, just couldn't get the shots to fall our way.

just for the record Nicky found out last week her foot was broken at the Ball State game...She said it didn't matter if she knew it before or not she was glad she played !!! Go Cyclones

Arlen played almost 10 minutes a game on an elite 8 team, not quite sure what more she could expect in her situation. Maybe she could also see the writing on the wall with the new recriuts coming in next year. Just puzzling to me, I guess, she probably could have had her time double next year, now she will have to sit a year at a lesser program.

This is a huge shock, especially Arlen. Yackley I could see but Arlen easily was penciled in as a starter next year I'd think. What in the world is going on with our basketball teams these days? Seems like every offseason you can pretty much expect a handful of players to leave now and it's starting to trickle over to the women's side too apparently. If anything now Bill has some immediate playing time available on a team coming off an Elite 9 appearance so hopefully he can use that as leverage in recruiting.

Da hell is that?!

Yackly... thanks for nothing... glad she's not going to waste a scholly for the future!!! WW was way better! Arlen was okay i think she'd be a pretty good player... we have some solid post players coming in next year

If she was a waste of a scholly, why are you pissed? Get over it...

WW is going to turn into a heck of a player.

ww is going to be great! lol im not pissed at all!! im glad we freed up her scholarship... she wasnt D1 material

So you're saying Bill is a crappy coach for thinking she was D1 material?

I don't understand why people say this. She isn't leaving on bad terms. You don't have to tear her down. :skeptical:

Yackley got caught in a numbers game more than anything, but she would have had a real chance to play this upcoming season with Ezell and Rockall gone.
