Arizona does NOT hire Tim Floyd

The poster described Hoiberg as the "best ISU bball player of all time," and while Hornacek had a great Cyclone career, it was not close to Hoiberg's.

Agree on that...if we wanna go off of who has had the most success in the NBA for Greatest Cyclones of All-Time than Jeff Hornacek is the Greatest Clone of All-Time and it's not even close...he's the only Cyclone to ever play in the NBA All-Star game, and also has his jersey retired by the Utah Jazz.

I think we can all agree though that Jeff Hornacek is not the greatest Cyclone of all-time, even though he was a heck of a player...

In the 1960's, under legendary coach Vic Bubas, Duke went to three Final Fours (63, 64, and 66) losing to UCLA in the championship game in 64.

Do some research next time. I would hardly call that a "basketball wasteland."

Forty year ago Duke had a good run under Vic Bubas. Then he retired and the next 3 Duke coaches had a collective conference record of 60-78 with one conference title and three NCAA tournament appearances in 12 years. That is less than what ISU has done in the last 12 years. So yes, Duke was a basketball wasteland when Coach K went there in 1981. Get your facts straight before you post next time. Thanks in advance.

You must be about 25-30 years old and think that ISU BB started when you became aware of the program.

Wrong, but you go with that if you want. You must think of Orr days as the golden age for ISU basketball.

I look at as Floyd built it up from where it was (not that it was bad, it wasn't) and took it higher. When he left, he did not leave the program worst, instead better.

Chizik, took a program and made it worst.

We sucked during the Chizik period and our record showed it...but we won't know if he made the program worse until his recruits are upperclassmen...You can't completely judge a guy's impact on a program based off what he does with a different coach's players...I don't like what Chizik did one bit, but who know's, maybe when some of his recruits are upperclassmen we'll be talking about what a great job of recruiting he did for us during our rebuilding stage...maybe not too, but it's a possibility that we won't know for another couple of years.

Again - in the immediate 3 years prior to Coach K coming to Duke:

* Duke reached the NCAA Championship game
* Duke reached the NCAA Elite Eight
* Duke lost in the NCAA second round

Don't think that's a "wasteland." When you're wrong, just admit it...

Those are hard FACTS to dispute...but a lotta people on this board won't let facts get in the way of a good argument.

Agree on that - Hornacek has had the best NBA career. Even his days with the Sixers (which he said he loved, and was initially sad about the trade to Utah) were great.

How about thank you Jacy Holloway!

Were you "fond" of that last season...12-18 as I recall. Were you fond of thugs like Kenny Pratt in the program.

Listen, Floyd is an amiable guy (I have met him), he is a very solid college coach (not great), and I certainly appreciated what he did at ISU but he is not the "great" coach that many of you have somehow been duped into believing. Great coaches can get past the Sweet 16.
Actually I didn't mind the 12-18 season.
We'd had 3 great seasons and it was clear we were in for a rebuilding year or two.
We had a great game against Texas that year that's still one of my favorite games ever.
And Marcus Fizer was a Freshmen, and better days were certainly ahead.
You're bound to have rebuilding years at Iowa State.
I seriously doubt you're a Cyclone fan.
I can understand the frustration for Mcdermott's supporters when people bring up comparisons to Orr and Floyd. But that's our history. And I won't buy a Cyclone fan running them down.

I don't think NBA success would determine who was the greatest Cyclone ever. I think it would have to be what they did here.
For me, it was Jeff Grayer.
Just nobody in his league in my opinion.

For me it would be a tie somehow between Jeff Grayer and Fred Hoiberg. Watching Grayer is part of what made me a Cyclone. The man could do anything he needed to do to put us in position to win.

Hoiberg doesn't leave much to be said. The man was simply incredible!

I think Gary Thompson, Marcus Fizer, Jamal Tinsley and Barry Stevens could be mentioned without to much arguement. I like that we can have this argument and mention more than 1-2 players from 1 or 2 eras.
