Do you remember 5th grade math? Are you smarter than a 5th grader?

This is a real math problem so don't say that the bus has no legs. There are no tricks in the question. ​


If you get the correct answer, that's the password for the attached spreadsheet. ​

There are 7 girls on a bus ​

Each girl has 7 backpacks ​

In each backpack, there are 7 big cats ​

For every big cat there are 7 little cats ​


Question: How many legs are there in the bus? ​


The number of legs is the password to unlock the Excel sheet. ​


If you open it, add your name, re-save the spreadsheet and send it on to see who else can unlock it. ​

I thought it would it a trick question involving the bus driver. But it is just straightforward accounting.

This is much easier than a plane on a treadmill.
 
That was a little harder than I first thought.

Tied doing the St Ives riddle on it - didn't work.

And really don't remember how to structure algebra all that well either
 
How the heck are you supposed to add your name and get it to save to the site?

This one ****** me off - I misread it... TWICE!!!
 
I got it, but what I want to know is the size of the backpacks and if there is any friction that would cause static electricity in a sufficient amount to propel the bus forward using.... oh never mind.
 
If you had a cat on a treadmill, and the treadmill could match the speed of the cats legs. How many airplanes could you fit in a bus?

Apparently my computer doesn't have excel installed on it so I only have a reader. So now I must come on here and brag at how amazing I am at math!
 
I am a 5th grade teacher, and I had to do the problem twice....oops! I'm going to give this to my class as a brain teaser/extra credit this afternoon. Should be interesting. :smile:
