Applewhite Says No

All this really tells me is that he hasn't been contacted yet. I'm sure a large payraise and a chance to coach in the Big 12 would be tough to turn down for a young coach. Just sayin'.

I would say that any potential candidates aren't "out of the running" until one is officially hired.

Supposedly that's what he said.

Yet do we have any sort of article to back that up?

Unfortunately, I don't recall for certain where I saw the quote at, but he was quoted a good week and a half or so before he was hired. I remember it specifically, because it forced me to cross him off the wish list I had in my head.

I'll do some looking around to see if I can find the article.

I remember hearing/reading rumors that he wasn't interested - yet nothing in an article with him quoted, etc.

My question is what staff position would he be offered and is that an upgrade from being the OC at Rice............at Rice he get's to cut his teeth in running the offense.....at ISU he takes a step backward and work under someone.....I'm not sure he would look at that as a step up

That is definitely a good question.

Would being the quarterbacks coach at a BCS program be the same/worse/better than OC at a program like Rice?

Today's word in Austin radio is that Greg Davis is a possible candidate for U of Alabama - mentioned that Mack has a brother or some kind of family connection or something in that pipeline which helps..... That opens up the Texas QB Coach job MAJORLY....hmmmm, just another conspirecy theory!

Why would he be a "hot prospect" anyway? Young and experienced and only name recognition. ok, I'll agree some short term name recognition in TX.

A buddy of mine is a bama grad (and f***in crazy about crimson tide football like every other bama grad) and what I'm hearing from him is that Rodriguez from WVU is likely the top choice since Spurrier signed the extension w/ SC, but apparently there's a big stink about Stoops (yes, the Bob Stoops from OU) being a candidate as well. Anyway, he keeps his ear pretty close to the ground when it comes to bama football, and he hasn't said anything about Davis. I'm not saying it couldn't happen, but I really don't think Davis is going to Bama, so I doubt Major would be headin to UT. Just my 2 cents...

Why would Applewhite be a good prospect??? Last year Rice averaged 103 yards passing a game. This year 206 with him as offensive coordinator and helping with the qb's. For all you math majors out there, that means they doubled what they did last year. More importantly they went from 1-10 in 2005 to 7-5 in 2006 and playing in a bowl.

Okay, you really need to word your arguments a little better, because from what you've said, it looks like you think Applewhite would be great. But the way you opened, and the egregious number of ???????????? you used, it seems like you're angry he's being considered. Which one is it?

I personaly don't think that quote means he is out of the running, but only something the university put out with his consent and makes plenty of sense when he is out recruiting before a bowl game. All it means is that if we did get him it would be after their game.

Davis is rumored to be a candidate for UAB, not Bama. Mack Brown's brother Watson is under pressure as it became clear that trying to make Bolt the fall guy was not the answer to their struggles. I took a quick look at UAB's last 5 years and it appears that the two best years on defense were when Bolt was in charge.

sodakjoe, I was making reference to someone who earlier posted earlier and asked "why would Applewhite be a good hire?" I'm all for him being on our staff, that was my argument.
