Anyone driven to Texas

OK an update. Found some flights to Houston that fit my schedule and were reasonable. Booked it through Expedia and got a three day car rental for 400 less than straight shot to San Antonio.

So my next question is this. How bad is the drive from Houstion Airport to San Antonio for those who have done it. Houston to San Antonio will be around 6 PM. San Antonio to Houston will be around 2 AM to catch a 6 AM flight so not too worried about that.

CS to SA is about 3 hours, mostly four lane state highway...done that more than a few times. Houston to SA is a little farther, but nearly all on I10. You have to figure it will take a while to get out of the airport & Houston (you didn't mention which airport, either). It also depends on where in SA you're going. West side of Houston to east side of SA is around 2 hours, give or take...then add on the estimated driving time spent IN the two cities. Driving time kind of depends on who's driving & how heavy their foot is...

There is major construction on I35W between Denton and Ft Worth. Lanes are being added. Right now, I think they are working at the US 287/81 split, but they might even be further north by now. I don't know what I35E is like because I don't drive that side, but I can almost guarantee you that I35W will be a nightmare unless you happen to hit a very non peak time.

As I recall, there is also widening going on on I35E, but maybe somebody from that side can update what is going on there and with US75. There may not really be a good route through DFW right now...

35E is fine. I am on the project. Major lane closures wont start for another couple of months. And I believe we have to keep 2 lanes open during peak hours anyway.

Everyone saying getting to DFW is a breeze is correct, and yes it gets worse between here and SA but its not that bad unless youre driving on SXSW weekend or something.
