anybody know the situation with Pomelee?

I really hope the staff is really looking at someone else to fill the scholie with, the reese kid does not excite me and there is a bigger need with the post position. A juco center would be good

i still have real questions about pomlee.... he only averages 15.7 ppg and 8 rpg and he's supposedly one of the best big men in the state? at his size he should be able to take over games, with the lack of good bigs in the state.

A guy we should look at is this 6'8 junior from waukee, his name is gabe knutson. averages 19ppg 7rpg and was first team all CIML as a junior. only been playing basketball since i think 7th or 8th grade. expect him to grow a little, be about 6'9" and average 25ppg and 10-12 rpg as a senior

"Monster in the paint--" Isn't that what we have been lacking since Homan graduated? I'd say take him if he can bang under the basket. I think we will have adequate scoring with Steiger and Eik on the outside and Brakins on the inside.

Problem is that he is not a monster in the paint. He would need an attitude adjustment if he is ever going to be a contributor at the D1 level

Was anyone excited about WJ when we signed him? If Mac likes him enough to offer, that is good enough for me.

Free on scout, wisky and wv are no longer even on his list of choices, and he has us as the only school of high interest. No offer yet, but I would guess he might be coming here.
BTW, his sophomore year, Kansas was after him really hard, so he has to have a ton of upside.

well from what i saw at the dav central vs waukee game last night pomlee would be extremely outmatched in the big 12. he got totally worked by gabe knutson who had a monster game with 22 pts, 16 reb. Pomlee had 12 pts and 14 rebs. i think Gmac seriously needs to look at knutson as a possible recruit next year. heck he may be looking at him, but gabe has refused to talk to any newspapers, etc. about recruiting

How does a guy get totally worked when he has 14 boards and 7 blocked shots in a winning effort. Maybe LA doesn't have to score as much since it looks like Davenport has some very good players around him.

Dport Central is really good, and has two d1 guards. everyone i've talked to thinks he is a high major prospect, and they are favorably impressed by him.

12 pts and 14 boards in a winning effort? That's not a bad day's work, especially when there's other talent on the team besides him. Hmph - sounds more like to me you just don't like the guy than there was anything wrong with the performance. Not saying the guy will succeed at the DI level, just saying you're not even giving him a chance.

From what I have heard, Knutson is a mid major prospect, but he may have improved.

Here is what I can add, and I have been vocal on the Pomlee topic for a while...
GMac was at his substate final game against Bettendorf which was on the eve of the KU game for ISU.
The game I saw against Assumption wasn't his best game, he was worked by two smaller posts one of which was a sophomore. For example, he dunks a rebound putback and sprints back on D - he then misses a bunny layup and hobbles back as though his foot hurts... He was benched after losing his cool after picking up three fouls in a short period of time.
He puts up decent numbers but my point all along has been his lack of an ability to create his own shot. Teams in the MAC let him catch on the block and usually he can't do anything with it. That is not to say he could develop moves etc at ISU. He gets his numbers from guards driving and dishing, rebound putbacks and he is a very good free throw shooter.
Secondly, don't be fooled by his numbers and the fact that he's on a team with two of the best guards in the state. Bateman and Hicks handle the rock the majority of the time. Calling Pomlee the third option or the third best player on the team is relative to how little he gets the ball. People who follow the AAU circuit around Martin Bros. have said he excels more in that arena than the HS ranks. Without those two guards his team is one dimensional and not in the state state title game. Watch the title game tonight and see Central's approach.
Although I've been ciritcal of him I'm leaning more to hoping ISU gets him and that is a 180 from previous posts.
There is no doubt he has the body to add bulk.
He could come in as Damion Staple and leave with a solid four-year career and I haven't even addressed his greatest strengths of rebounding and shot blocking.

I can't wait for the City High-Central game. It will have around 6 d1 players(AJ Derby, Gatens, Pomlee, Hicks, Bateman, and Lickliter(walk on))
