i could go on. those that think isu will ever pull in 5-star talent are delusional. there are typically 25 5-star football players a year. this year there are only 13.

we aren't getting any of them any time soon. sure there are a couple hundred 4 star guys out there, and we will get a few of them from time to time, but we are going to have to build on 2 and 3 star guys.

put it this way-there are around 112 d-1 schools with 85 roster slots. that's 9520 scholarship athletes. of those 9520, 13 are ranked 5 star talent. say even 500 are ranked 4 stars. that leave 9,000 0,1,2, and 3 star kids to fill out the remaining rosters. and this isn't including schools like northern iowa and the like.

I talked to Irving before the game. He definitely looks the part. Has the size that we rarely see at Iowa State. Great kid too

i wish someone that pays could give an exact number as to how many kids are rated with the 4 star tag. if my guess of 500 is fairly accurate, which i think it might even be a little high, that would be enough to stock just under 6 teams rosters.

Yeah and UT routinely fills their recruiting board with pretty much all 5 and 4 stars from the state of Texas before the season even starts. So you have to subtract that many from the pool really early.

There are about 240 four star recruits in the Rivals database

I completely agree that stars aren't everything, but offers are definitely something to look at.

If we had a class full of kids that had no stars but had offers from other Big 12 and BCS conference schools, I would be very excited about that.

Its when we have kids with only offers from small MAC, MWC and WAC conference schools that concerns me.

And I know the delusional crowds argument is that ISU offered them so early that they didn't have time to get other offers. Which IMO, is a giant load of crap. Not EVERY kid that we offered early would have ended up with multiple other BCS offers.

And I also don't buy the "these are CPRs A and B targets" crap. Anyone who has access to rivals knows all the offers we have out to highly regarded recruits that were shot down.

Yea but on my NCAA '11 video game I'm able to get all kinds of 4 and 5* recruits to Ames, I dunno what this coaching staff is doing wrong.
