I bought a fixer-upper house, which came with an alarm system. I know absolutely nothing about it, the realtor knows absolutely nothing about it (it was a foreclosure home), and the local company that serviced it has gone out of business. I am seriously considering ripping it out and selling the parts on eBay (they go for a pretty penny since they are not made any more, especially the controller), but I think it would be fun to play with it a bit before doing so. It is a "GS3055-I" controller, if that tells you anything. I did google it and found some information, but I thought maybe someone here might know more.

Just sell it. It's a commercial unit that would be a huge pain and cost to get working.

From the installation manual:
Description -
The GS3055-I CF has the capability of communicating alarm signals via the GPRS data network. This capability provides a fast, reliable path to central stations equipped with a Sur-Gard System III, System II, or SG-SYSTEM I receiver.

So where is your offsite system that this will report to?

An Omaha company called "Image Security Equipment".

I think home systems are pretty cheap anymore?

We also just bought a house that has a ADT system already installed... Dont get possession until april 1 and i've already received several calls from ADT trying to sign me up

I had ADT and switched. The equipment can be used by other services. You just need to find someone honest about it. They just made a small modification in ours.
I would assume the same with OP equipment.

I don't really want a home security system. This house came with one and I wondered what I could do with it. Hack it, maybe? Break out an old laptop with an RS-232 serial port, plug it in and see what happens? I should have checked reddit. Nevertheless, I have already started tearing it apart.

Before you decide to remove it, playing around with it could be a fun and educational experience. Since you're considering selling the parts, exploring the functionality of the "GS3055-I" controller could give you valuable insights into its capabilities and potential value.

Hmm, sounds like an AI bot has joined Cyclone Fanatic. I, for one, welcome our new AI overlords!

Get a big dog and a shotgun. If they're casing your house they're gonna make sure you're not home anyways.

Cameras are the best option now imo.
