Announcing the game remotely

As far as I know the NFL only did the Jets-Dolphins game in 1980 without announcers so it was a lot more than 20 years ago and it sucked. It might be better today because you could get a lot more information on the screen but I still don't think it would work very well. I think announcers add a lot to the game although I would prefer them to be there and not at a remote site. Sure they sometimes say stupid and/or obvious stuff but I can just filter that out as background noise.
The NFL Network did it again in 2004 at the very least. They miced up a bunch of players and coaches to add to the audio.

I would like no announcers and for all players to be mic'd up up so I can just hear people screaming **** and **** for two hours.

I don't know if it is ISU that provides them, but I think local people run the cameras.

In my experience, this was 10 years ago now, they had local camera operators for televised basketball games. I used to work the scoreboard camera at ISU and the guys that would run the cameras under the hoop for the national broadcasts were local guys from the TV stations or just freelance photographers/videographers (I remember one of them was named Marlin - he was a nice guy). I don't believe they we hired by the university. I'm basing that on my experience when I worked as a freelance grip for an ISU-Iowa football game at Jack Trice. I was paid by Disney for that game as was everyone else. Football was a bit different - they only had 1 local cameraman and I think that was just by coincidence as he actually freelanced quite a bit for ESPN. All the other camera ops were from all over the country and they were the same crew and talent that traveled from game-to-game each week. Mike Tirico was on that crew - he was super nice and went out of his way to talk to everyone.

The weird thing is they did the game from Charlotte. Not sure if either guy lives there, but it seems weird they can get them to Charlotte much cheaper than they can get them to Ames. You could tell they were not at the game because of the lack of background noise. They do need to be honest about it and don't act like they are at the game. It could make it better for the announcers because in a studio they would have more technology than at the game courtside.

Charlotte is an American Airlines hub. Much easier and cheaper to fly in and out of Charlotte than Des Moines.
