Ankeny's current Place Kicker

yes actually they do. shaggy was 0-0 going into thursdays game. i know youre upset, trust me im not calling you out on being a dedicated fan...ive gotten in trouble for that before. im upset he missed them also. im just saying there is a difference between being upset and calling for a change after 2 misses. meyer threw 2 picks and no one has called him shanky.

You must have missed all of the people suggesting that Meyer needs to improve or take a seat, including myself.

As to shags getting a clean slate... from the Depth Chart on Cyclones.com -

Has made 28-of-39 FG att.; 76-76 PATs in career

From the Notes -

7. IOWA STATE PLACEKICKER BRET CULBERTSON

is the among most accurate placekickers
in school history, hitting on 28-of-39
fi eld career fi eld-goal attempts. The .718
effort ranks him third in ISU history. The
former walk-on has made all of his 76 PAT
tries. The Des Moines-Lincoln graduate
is 23-27 inside 40 yards and had a careerlong
52-yard three-pointer against Texas
Tech last season. Overall, the senior has
made 104-of-115 kicks (.904) in his career,
a school pct. record. Culbertson missed
attempts of 44 and 47 yards against Kent
State. His second kick hit the left upright.

They seem to count Shaggy's career. I think his whole career should be considered when judging him. Or should I give him a clean slate for this year and consider him the worst kicker in ISU history with a 0.00 FG%?

Excellent points Bryce. I happened to be the individual that started the thread about Meyer...I'll link it for ya...

http://www.cyclonefanatic.com/forum/football/12000-bret-meyer.html

Shaggy is not a good kicker...regardless of what year you look at. I would love nothing more than to see him make the big kick and get the monkey off his back. I've been saying that since that first crucial miss.

He's yet to come through, unfortunately. And...the fact is...he hasn't shown anything in game kicks that he will.

It is what it is, we can call for change but we won't likely get one, because no one else is there. I'll be quite upset if we don't go after a good kicker for the '08 class.

Bryce: You must then include the numerous times we choose NOT to kick a FG when inside the 35 ... we didn't kick it because we needed to score a TD as if the time was running out. We didn't kick them, because Shaggy couldn't make them. Sure BM threw two interceptions, but he has pulled us through some big games and situations. Shaggy has done neither .... and has had fewer opportunities to make it/miss it because of the choice not put him on the field.

In fact didn't we go a whole year without trying a 40+ yard field goal with Shaggy as the kicker?

- keep.

Another kicker to watch is Spencer's Sam Brockshus.
He has been the starting kicker for Spencer since he was a Freshman. Last year as a Soph. he was the first team 3A district one kicker. This summer Sam hit the weights and went to some kicking camps. At a Kohls kicking camp in Mankato this summer he kicked consecutive field goals of 45, 50, 55, 60 and 63 yards to win the field goal competition. If you want to see him go to the Kohl's kicking Camp website and look in the Kohls Player Video Clips area. All Sam needs now is some opportunities to kick field goals in game situations.

I think we should just hold open try-outs for a regular student to be our kicker. That seems to be working out so far (please note the sarcasm).

I know Chris Mahoski graduated in '05 from Bettendorf and was on the team as a place kicker. I can tell you from watching from the opposing sideline, as much fun as that is playing Bett, he has got quite a leg on him. I don't know why he never gets playing time, maybe he didn't stick around after last year, I know he was frustrated not playing

they are the first two he has missed, this year. which i made clear in my post is the year i was referring to, not previous. and call me crazy, but until i can go hit the upright on a 51 yard field goal, im not going to call out someone that can

True statement but you and I are not getting our education paid for and all the bells and whistles that come with a D1 scholorship!!

PS he missed a 49yd field goal against UNI and a 44yd and 47yd in game one.
