Zeb Miller is Ankeny's current kicker. He is a junior this year. Currently he is a better soccer player than a football kicker, but with the coaching he will receive it would not susprise me if he gets a football scholarship in a couple of years. He is 6 foot 2 or 3 and probably weighs 175 or so. This weekend against Ft. Dodge he showed good leg strength and kicked a field goal. From the 40 he can kick it into the end zone if he kicks it low. When he kicked for hang time the ball traveled to about the 5. On extra points and field goals, he gets excellent height on his kicks. If he continues to improve he could be Ankeny's next kicker to get a scholarship. In soccer this last summer, Ankeny won the state championship and he was the starter at the back of the defense.

Zac Guyer from Johnston is a better prospect IMO. He would already hold offers if it wasn't for an ACL injury that took him out a good portion of his junior season

Its too bad Ankeny's kicking coach Peter Rameh is a big Hawk fan and enjoys making fun of Iowa State.

Two guys to keep an eye on

Greg Fleming
Ben Parks

I have been looking up some pages and stats on Greg Fleming and although I believe he is only like a 1 star recruit, he looks like someone ISU would glad to be have kicking the ball for them. We really need to improve in the kicking game again...it is such an underrated part of football. He is also a "high" interest prospect for ISU along with the Chokeyes, Minnesota, and SD State. Ben Parks also sounds like a very good recruit (ranked #25 at his position on scout.com), but I have no idea how high interest we are for him compared to his other schools.

Guyer from Johnston is the real deal. Kicked out of the end zone on all of his kick offs last Friday night and had field goals of 42 and 47 yards.

Yeah, I live right near him, I see him drive every morning with those hawk license plates and it makes me sick. He needs to send a few up ISU's way. Ohh well, my boys are coming ISU! I will teach them to kick!

What you do is enroll them in youth soccer (as much as you hate it), and then when junior high/middle school (depending how they do it in central Iowa) comes around ban them from the soccer fields. By then they will have learned the basics of kicking before the slide tackling as well as the other injury-related moves are allowed. Then you can get them kicking on an 8th grade football team.

Culbertson misses two 47 yard field goal attempts and we have to send out an SOS for kickers? I'm pretty sure there are a few NFL kickers who will miss two 40+ yard field goal tries in a game this year and they won't be fired. Let's just chill out and see how he does the next few games.

Is there anyone on the roster that can help us THIS year or is Shanky all we got?
wow! he misses 2 FGs (neither a chip shot) and all of the sudden he is being called Shanky? it amazes me how soon people jump ship sometimes. and the funny part is they are the same people who are jumping back on as soon as he hits a game winner. (and dont give me the "he cant hit it when the game is on the line" bull ****...step into this year)

You act as if these are the first two kicks he's missed...

Zach Guyer of Johnston is maybe the top kicker in the state. He has kicked a 62 yarder in practice and made a 42 and 47 last Friday. He is 6'3" with a body that is going to continue to grow. He routinely kicks to the back of the endzone on kickoffs.

yeeaaaahhh....i'm gonna have to disagree with you on this one. He couldnt' make a 21 yard chip shot to with the North against Colorado I beleive and he has done nothing since to gain any trust.

I'm not ripping the guy, I'm just saying he is not a good kicker. Maybe a decent DIII kicker. Give him credit for coming back and trying to step up when we had no one else.

they are the first two he has missed, this year. which i made clear in my post is the year i was referring to, not previous. and call me crazy, but until i can go hit the upright on a 51 yard field goal, im not going to call out someone that can

once again, im talking about this year. maybe i should bolded that part in the original post. at least you give him credit. granted he has missed FGs but how many have the other kickers made. oh thats right...0.

unless you guys honestly think no one can ever get better in the off season, lets wait for a couple more misses before we jump ship shall we?

I can't run the ball behind a great offensive line, much less a poor/average one. So should I not be upset if we're not executing running plays well?

What about my inability to hit a 15 yard out consistently? Should I not be upset if we fail to achieve that?

We're fans. The guys in uniform are athletes. They have (or are supposed to have) the athletic abilities and skills - not us.

As far as separating the missed kicks in past years from this year...I don't get it. Do players get a completely clean slate each year?

Shaggy is NOT consistent and he's NOT a good kicker, period. The main fault on our poor kicking game isn't Shaggy though, it's the fact the previous staff didn't recruit that position better. But that doesn't mean we can't be upset with the guy we have missing kicks.
