Allen or Mcgee at point

We need him starting not coming off the bench. With that being said we need him playing on the wing and not bringing the ball up and setting up the O leave that for Allen.

No we don't.
He can't stay in front of anyone (also known in the business as defensive liability).

There's a place for someone with that shooting stroke but we have to think defense first.

If you didn't realize point guard would be a major issue this year at this time last year, you're not paying attention and/or were to busy drinking the kool-aid..

Last year at this time, we had Sledge, McGee (who was billed as a PG at the time), and the kid from Texas that eventually de-committed once we recruited over him with Sledge. It was always going to be a tall order to replace Diante, but last year at this time it at least looked like we would have options.

I agree why does Scotty NEED to start?? He is a more comfortable spot up shooter, let him play that role, start Allen at PG and McGee at the 2...

Why exactly do we need SC to start? What does he bring other than his excellent long range shooting? We currently have at least 3 above average shooters (including SC) on this team. If Allen and Babb are better all around shooters/defenders than SC, then he shouldn't be starting.

That might change if CFH comes out and decides to give Allen a look at the PG spot, but, for whatever reason, he has been extremely resistant to that so far. This is evident by the fact that CFH even considered playing SC at the PG position in the first place.

Sorry folks but it was the defense that lost this game. The offense didn't run smooth but in spite of that they were still able to score enough points to win. The defense was a sieve. Players looked lost and confused. Drake shot 60% in the second half. Until this team sells all out on the D this team will be like Baylor, talented but not well coached.
This offense (in its defense) is not ready for prime time. The better teams will stuff us. The offense in the last five minutes was a bust. Shots were bricked and we had no good plan to get good shots. This does not bode well to win future games.

Didn't have time to read the entire thread and I'm probably not going to say anything that hasn't already been said, but it's clear after three games the SC point guard experiment needs to end. He is a gunner, period. You take him out of that role and he's a liability as a ball handler and defender. SC needs to go back where he belongs and we need to bite the bullet and put the ball in someone else's hands, even if that person is a freshman.

I agree, but no one should have thought we would not have problems at this position before SC was named starter.

After watching some of the game again. To me it is clear that Allen should be playing the PG spot. He is a better ball handler, better at getting the basket, and better passer than Scotty is. He is also better at getting his own shot. I have a feeling the healthier he gets the more he will take over the role as PG.

Exactly! If we are going to turn a 2 into a 1, why not make Allen PG? He can actually get to the hoop and make plays...not to mention defend the other team's PG. Let scotty do his thing at the 2 where he is much more effective.

Fred needs to let this team run , run and run some more

Run with who? Nobody on this roster is the natural guy to run with the ball down the floor. We need DG bad. Sledge is that guy but is clearly not ready or he'd be playing.

Most people who had issues with DG had issues with him as the go-to in the last 30 seconds. Undeniable he was extremely valuable on the whole of the game.

But feel free to misrepresent what people were saying.

Alars you are correct. I hated on DG as much as anyone and it was because of the play in the last 2 minutes (not just 30sec). I always admitted he was a very good player; just not at the end. Unfortunately, many times the last few minutes of the game are the most important part.

Normally I'd say put the best player at the position he'll do the best at but PG makes everything else go. As it is now we need to Look at every possibility and go with what works. If I were to guess I'd go with McGee.

....like last night in the last five minutes where we had no go to shooter (or we had plenty of shooters tossing bricks).

The PG is fixed for next year but right now it really should be Allen. Having watched Sledge over the summer he like all our guards are really looking to score (combo guards).

I suppose my point is Korie Lucious is the only pass first guard on the roster and we don't get to see him until next year. I was making a point in another thread that Iowa State might have been better off passing on the bigger recruit like Chris Allen for someone like Kaylon Williams form Kirkwood... he could have actually played for us last year and he'd be dropping 5 to 7 dimes a night this year. He does come with his baggage but I'd rather get JUCO transfers that can come in and play right away (like McGee too) even if it means passing on guys like Chris Allen sometimes.

Iowa State might have too many off guards and PFs and not enough glue guys.

Kaylon Williams is a thug and a cancer. I would have been extremely disappointed if CFH had taken a chance on him.

He did get a DUI, so yes to my knowledge he did get in trouble once. Wagemester has had good things to say about him though. Maybe I'm missing some other off the court issues, but to be a thug I'd think you'd need to be a repeat offender.

Character issues maybe... but on the court or locker room issues I was never aware of. Rarely are pass first guards cancers on the basketball floor.

Every one knows, scottie doesn't deserve to start, especially after last night's performance. Being there, I was almost sick at the lack of defense all around but especially by him. At the moment the starting line up should be Allen at point, Babb and McGee as guards and then playing White and Ejim as forwards. Scottie should come off the bench at best and even then he should just stand in the corner and wait for an open three. Bubu is a defender, but not good enough ball handler to bring the ball up the court. White plays like a 270 pound fifth grader in regards to his intensity at times. Finally why did coach take ejim out....I still haven't read anything on that.

Scotty should start, he has proven to be a big time player who can make clutch shots at the 2 position. Pretty sure Freddy knows more about bball than anyone on this forum, and I would be surprised if he didn't make some changes after last nights game.
