So we just hired a new engineer at work a couple weeks ago. Like all the other new starts, he spent the first couple weeks assembling stuff in the back.
We were all were surprised when our HR director sent an e-mail that he is no longer with the company. Turns out he failed his drug test.

Application point.... You will have a drug test when you start a new job. Even if you are going to be a night manager at Taco Bell. So don't light one up in celebration of your new job offer.

I have always and will always volunteer any drug test at anytime.

Wow, not the smartest guy was he. I mean don't most places explicitly say that you will submit to a drug test on your first day of work? I men it's not that hard of a test to pass. Just don't study for it.

Side note, I still find it funny that one of the places I interned at required a physical, drug test and breathalyzer on the first day of work. Felt weird to take a breathalyzer at 9 am on a tuesday.

I didn't have to take one when I started, not that I wouldn't have passed or anything.

Every job I've had has only done the pre-employment drug screen. Maybe he got confused.....

That said, my current employer has talked about doing some random drug screening, which would be fine with me. Might clear our the production floor, but that wouldn't be a bad thing.

When I had a real job it seemed every 6 months or so I got chose for a random drug test. I never came close to not passing one but, I hope I never have to pee in a cup again. I always hoped they would screw on up and it come back postive, so I could get that free paid week off while they waited for the 2nd test.

not true. i got hired, as an engineer not even taco bell, and i have yet to take one. i will pass if i do, im just saying. there are people in the office who have taken them since i started. both new hires and people who have been there a while. i guess just try not to be suspicious.

I haven't had drug test with my current job or my previous one, not that it would matter either way, but interesting still. Apparently banks must not be big into drug testing. I worked at a clinic and an environmental consulting firm and they both tested.

It all depends on the type of job and the type of atmosphere. I know through the couple of architecture firms I have worked for they care very little about those tests unless there is some obvious reason why they should (not showing up to work, not completing your work, disorderly behavior...the obvious). Also I think a lot of these guys wouldn't pass...but they are still doing their work well! :biglaugh:

I would have only had a problem if my landscaping job would have tested. Good thing it was just a small place that wouldn't have the funding to spend on those types of things...
