ADD/ADHD Medication Shortage

Anybody having any better luck getting refills for their kiddos? We've had to change our kids' medicine twice just to find something we can get without 3-4 weeks of waiting between refills. Finally found that we can reliably get Vyvance in the Waukee area now. Adderall has been out for months and Ritalin almost the same.

FYI - there is a relatively new thing with genetic testing for various genomes and mutations done by Genesight that has helped us. I went through almost every medicine imaginable for Anxiety, Depression, ADHD, and OCD and am on the 5 things that help just a little. With my kids, the genetic testing showed which genes and mutations relate to each medicine, absorption, etc.
I haven't had many issues since my first post but it was a pain in the ass for a while.

Thanks all for the feedback.

It’s weird how it’s affecting certain areas incredibly hard and other areas not at all. Everything I’ve read in the national publications is that it’s still a widespread issue, but clearly there are locales where it isn’t.

We exclusively use the Waukee Walgreens due to the huge amount of meds we get refilled every week. They have gone an average of 3 months between stock refills of Aderall since last September with other ADHD/ADD meds following as people were forced to switch. When I would call around to Hy-Vee, Medicap, etc in Waukee, they all reported the same things. If I would call a store in Des Moines, they would sometimes have supply.

I think there are a couple issues.
  1. The FDA has a cap on how much of a controlled substance a given factory can make each year and the national articles state the demand has far outpaced those caps.
  2. There was a huge increase in diagnosis during the COVID period.
  3. To stem the Opiod issue, a new limit was put in place on how much of a controlled substance a given pharmacy can dispense in a certain time period.
  4. Certain areas where people may on average have more financial means to get testing and medicine filled hit the above cap in #3 and/or can’t get new due to #1.

My Walgreens (Denver, CO) was hit or Miss so switched to my provider’s office pharmacy and haven’t had issues since with generic Adderall XR 10mg

I get my non-controlled meds (generics of Lexapro, Wellbutrin XL, and Celebrex) mail-order through Cost Plus Drugs (Mark Cuban’s company) and save a ridiculous amount of money.
