Abu Sama Commits!

Iowa didn’t even offer this kid? They need a new scouting department apparently.
News flash, as impressive as it was, this wasn’t “great” by the standards of top high school running backs. Remember the AHS kid a few years back who put up immense numbers—then was never heard of again as a Cyclone walkon? Yeah, that.

There’s a reason we offered him as a corner.

He's an athlete put him in any position if he can make it.

Tell me you didn’t watch the game without telling me you didn't watch the game.

He has some burst. Can't transform a guys speed- so there is a lot for coaches to work with from a position development.

Nothing against Iowa HS FB but a ton of guys look all-world against even good teams and then turn out to be backups for Northwest Missouri State or whatever.

I sure hope this kid will be great but he could look like The Flash on the field against this level of talent and it still doesn't mean he's a sure thing.

I get what you’re saying, but some kids just have “it”. Sama is an elite athlete. Will he be and all Big12 running back? No, probably not. All Big12 corner? Don’t bet against it.

Kind of a silly argument. Coaches get paid to judge talent and Coach Campbell and staff feel he has the talent to deserve a scholarship.

Sama averaged nearly 10 yards a carry and scored 4 TD's. Those are solid stats whether he played HS FB in Iowa or Texas. Plus the kid has elite speed

Now, here’s the “kind of silly” argument. Didn’t pay attention to what I actually said, did you?

So, as I said, there’s a reason they offered him as a corner.

Hint? It’s because they love him there.

I apologize, I replied to wrong post. Meant to reply to someone's post discounting Sama game/stat just because they were against IA HS competition.

Fair enough.

The problem is, Iowa HS competition really isn’t nearly as impressive as, say, Indiana or Missouri—let alone Ohio, Florida or Texas.

I remember watching Lazard’s highlights in high school, thinking he had to be a legit 4.42 guy by the way he blew past defenders.

He…wasn’t.
