mtown - among the three of us, our friend had an Ipod with FM radio, I had a tablet, and PapaLew had the live stream app on his phone. The radio (Walters on 100.3) was slightly ahead of the game tracker (play-by-play, not enough bandwidth for solid streaming) on the tablet, and the tablet was slightly ahead of the live stream, which had serious buffering issues with the video but stayed pretty current with the audio. So Diane would fist pump, or make some similar motion, then I'd see what the play was on the tablet, and we "might" see it happen on the phone. We went up to the concourse to watch the final minutes...and the cheers for Stuuuuuuuuuuu had all the other fans looking at us sideways. There were some Hawk fans (both varieties: blue & black/gold) in the crowd that were cheering for the Clones, and a handful of black/gold Hawks making generic ***** of themselves. They were pretty out-numbered though.

We need to take the long view here. The conferences (Big XII, Big10, MVC) will most likely host future tournaments in DSM. We just needed ISU behind this first bid. Having DSM in the mix for future NCAA tournaments is GREAT for ISU. One year of inconvenience is a small price to pay.

Iowa state plays at 5.

Kansas plays at approx 645.

Why in the hell is a team who is hosting playing on the same schedule as the site they are hosting. Get ready for prices to drop even more and the arena to be half filled. This is an absolute mess.

I got $250 each for my Saturday tickets just yesterday. I doubt that place will be half full.

Also, if I was lucky enough to have tickets for Saturday, as a fan of college bb I sure wouldn't miss Kentucky-Indiana just to watch Iowa State. Thats why they invented dvrs. How many times has this happened in Sea Moines.

Like the previous poster pointed out, people that bought tickets to the event went in knowing it was a good possibility their favorite team from Iowa would play during the event.

This basically seems like a complaint that says "I'm not getting everything I want." Kind of on the level of Grandpa Simpson shaking his fist at the crowd. Once you choose to buy these tickets, you know that you're either not watching games on TV or not using the tickets. That was part of the deal.

I've been watching first round games for quite some time, and most of the venues are pretty dead. The Well didn't really rev up to deafening volume yesterday, but the lower bowl and all the uppers were pretty full. I'll be interested to see if there is that much drop off considering how much more competitive (ie-exciting) the games will be tomorrow. I think you'll be wrong.

They put our game on the screen during one of the media (ie-loooooooong) time-outs, and the Hawkeye fans around us started booing. A couple were complaining about our relative seeding. I didn't say anything...just kept on smiling. I'm glad we're such a thorn in their side.

The REALLY loud booing came when they had the Baylor game on there right at the end of their game, and they switched off of it to invite us all to go buy NCAA merchandise. The boos were SO loud you couldn't even hear the announcer.

The director of the Iowa Events Center was on local Des Moines radio this morning and he said the NCAA has significant restrictions what video is played over the arena scoreboard screen. Originally they had hoped to have more ISU game action on the big screen at local game breaks but were told they could not do so. The compromise was coverage on half of the concourse screens.

Iowa State was included as host in the Des Moines bid as it was felt it strengthened the city's bid. Previous bids for the regional were not successful. Hopefully future bids (next possible in 2019) can include a conference.

Des Moines looked/sounded the best out of any venue for the night games imo. The camera set up, how close the front rows of the crowd were to the floor, the camera/media under the baskets all came off well. It was the most "high level CBB atmosphere" coming through the TV.

That alone makes the sponsorship worthwhile. Ignorant ****suckers!

There were a TON of people looking for tickets for Saturday's game last night. My brother sold his 2 behind the basket in the lower level before the Kentcuky game started for $160 each.

He said that they would have the ISU game on concourse screens on Saturday.

Except that it would lock out ISU from certain sites. I'd prefer to have us in play for more local sites than to avoid being on the same day as the site we're hosting.

But my question is how much work is the ISU AD actually doing to host this? Is there going to be any staff that will miss the ISU game because they have to work at the DM site? Or is WF and the NCAA handling the actual operation of the tourney?

The ISU AD is working their *** off from what I understand.

The benefit ISU got by hosting was the ability of their fans to get cheap tickets. I don't feel all that bad that instead of having your cake and eating it too, you only get to pocket a couple hundred dollars for you troubles.

I thought so, too. When they showed a floor camera looking up and around the arena, it was big-time! And in this world of "ooh, cool" and lots of people=success, I think Des Moines and ISU will fare well. Other than the possible snow tomorrow....

no one made money yesterday. tickets were $20 a piece yesterday with a $90 face value. there were hundreds of people selling tickets - not just scalpers but tons of ISU fans.

that's almost exactly what we did. I'd see my brother fist pump and then he'd give me the update. It was nerve-wracking, but in the end was good.

I'm extremely superstitious about Iowa State sports, so I was actually happy that the game is in the middle of the Des Moines games tomorrow. Why mess with what worked?

Here's my issue. I get having the problems with the games at the same time yesterday because there are games all day in Des Moines. The problem though is Saturday there are only two games in each location and it is right in the middle. There's like 5 hours of the what 20 hours of the second round that it is an issue. Put Denver as a late game or early afternoon. And Des Moines the opposite. Sure it adds to the things you have to consider but there aren't that many host schools actually in the tournament.
