A&M game, No TV, No webfeed....

We should all contact the Big XII offices and let them know how we feel about the tv package deals that they have. Also everyone else in the conference should start speaking up also. Something has to be done.

Big 12 offices don't care ... as long as Texas and Oklahoma are happy that is all that matters to them.

Yup. Really wish the networks would have said sorry to Texas v UCF and shown a big 12 game, but a top 5 blowout would probably get more viewers nationally than a big 12 game.

This. I'm wondering how much noise could be made by all of the fans of conference members who don't like the TV package. I'm going to type something up & start an online petition later today. If we can get the word out to the message boards of other conference members we can perhaps drum up some grassroots support. Ideally some media outlets might pick up on it & maybe something will happen down the road.

Here's what I think it will take though. As everybody realizes, the Big XII really only cares about keeping OU & Texas fans happy. That's why the Texas-Central Florida game gets one of our precious few TV slots next weekend & an actual conference game will get the shaft. In the petition I'm going to ask Big XII fans to boycott all TV broadcasts of Big XII games that don't involve their home school during the conference season until they find a way to EITHER get all conference matchups on TV OR allow schools to make other arrangements for broadcasts if their games are not picked up by the networks. It's the only way that we can put pressure on the conference to do something. If the conference knows that a large number of fans are no longer watching those OU & Texas games, it might give them the ammo they need to go back to the networks & negotiate out that stupid exclusivity clause. OU & Texas are clearly the big dogs in the conference, but maybe the combined voice of the rest of the conference members will be loud enough to get something done.

What does everybody think about an idea like this? If it sounds completely off the farm please let me know. But if there is enough support for this I'll work on the online petition later today & have something ready later tonight. I'm not overly confident that anything is going to happen immediately, but it can't hurt to try. At a minimum, if there is enough of an uproar maybe the conference won't be so quick to give the networks another stupid exclusivity agreement the next time media contracts are negotiated.

The Big 12 is governed by commissioners, one from each of the 12 schools. By making the above statement, you are implying that the commissioners from the 10 schools besides OU and UT are primarily looking out for OU and UT before their own schools. This seems rather unlikely to me.

That's why the Texas-Central Florida game gets one of our precious few TV slots next weekend & an actual conference game will get the shaft.

More likely, this game is on because it will draw the largest viewership of those available, and hence the most revenue for those broadcasters to whom the Big 12 has granted exclusive rights (via contract) to broadcast the games. Broadcasters exist to make money. That's just the way it is.

OU & Texas are clearly the big dogs in the conference, but maybe the combined voice of the rest of the conference members will be loud enough to get something done.

Each school only gets one vote. Only 9 votes are required to pass legislation in the Big 12 regarding revenue distribution. I'm not sure if this includes the TV contracts. Other matters only require a simple majority vote. It would seem that if the scenario is "OU/UT against the rest", as you seem to be suggesting, the rest have the voting power to do whatever they want.

What does everybody think about an idea like this?

I don't think you will have success organizing a successful boycott. I think a better approach would be for fans to turn up the heat on their school's athletic directors and presidents.

If you are going to work on a petition, please note that the proper way to refer to the conference in writing is "Big 12", and not "Big XII".

TV for the A&M game?

Sorry if it's been asked before, but does anyone know if there's coverage of the game this weekend(Preferably coverage viewable in ames)?

Clearly why they shouldn't commit to games until the Sunday before, who wants to watch Mizz v. CU or Nebraska v. Baylor?
