A little jealousy

Like many long-time Cyclone fans, I’ve sat through literally hundreds of Cyclone games over the last 40 years (many of those years rough). Watching my 10 year-old son singing Sweet Caroline Saturday while we wrapped up a regular season title...made me a little jealous that he didn’t have to suffer a little more like all of us old fans have.

It was a surreal moment walking out of the Jack Saturday- ready for more next week in Dallas!

Lock him in the closet until next Saturday. He'll suffer.

I can get him to scoop manure for a couple days non stop. My dad made me suffer that way if I was hung over.

Sorry I don’t mean to be a downer. I just hope people can appreciate and enjoy the season we are having.

OP, I can think of some Cyclone fans that are no longer with us, like my mom, that would have loved to have seen a season like this. Be thankful that you’ve got to witness this in your own life, and don’t worry if the younger generation has not paid their dues.

For what it's worth I didn't take it as a downer at all. I think all of us know someone that they would be incredibly happy for this season. Pete Taylor is one that comes to mind for me. All the yrs of bad FB he called he be in 7th heaven with this season. One of the few people that I never knew personally but I got choked up when I learned of his passing, I listened to him for hours and hours between calling FB and BB. And after typing all this I apologize for hijacking your post.

Absolutely man- I thought about the same thing, lots of loyal fans did miss this. Not a downer at all dude.
My post was mostly tongue-in-cheek...and making the young ones suffer seems fair! Hahaha

I also sat at the game thinking how winning lots of games hopefully becomes the normal for the young crop of Cyclone fans growing up.

I got to meet Pete Taylor a couple of times- genuine great guy. I teared up when he passed. No disrespect to our current announcers- but Pete was incredible. Nobody called an ISU game like he did- I miss him.

Hey it's a new era for these kids. All he had to do was download the title game and start singing. Easy peasy.

Well hopefully your son won’t have to know what a Cyclone nut cup is.

On a related note I have been a KC Royal fan my whole life, became one a couple of years before the 85 series. Unfortunately my 3 sons became Royals fans in 2014. They thought at the time they would be good forever. I should have warned them.

Nah! Throw them to the wolves. This is coming from a Reds fan.

Make him watch our bball team...he'll be in tears immediately.

I got to meet Pete at a Sertoma meeting years ago. It was the week of the ISU/EIU football game, so you can about imagine what transpired. He was a real gentleman, talked with everyone, gave a funny, memorable speech after dinner. He was a true professional - he knew when it was time to get excited during the broadcast.

I also remember an incident when Pete and Eric thought they were off the air during a men's BB broadcast, and Pete dropped an f-bomb. :D That's when I knew he was a regular guy, just like me.
